Reading of 32

I've just phoned the surgery for the results of my HbA1c test and told nothing to worry about - it's 32.

Since I was 5.2 last time this sounds alarming but I've tried out the converter and nothing seems to make sense.

Anyone any idea what this means or was the receptionist reading the wrong bit?

Hi MRSMOUSEMAT, don't worry, according to the literature that I have the non diabetic range is
4.0% - 6.0%, which is now 20 mmol/mol - 42 mmol/mol. So your result of 32 mmol/mol would still be in the low 5%. I got the information from Diabetes UK, so have a look, regards, Debra x

Don't worry MrsMousmat, you are the first of many. This change of units is going to cause so much trouble.

It's tough enough trying to get your head around BGs, mmol/l, mg/dL without having to deal with two flavours of HbA1c.

I'm a professional Engineer, and it made my head spin when I was first diagnosed.

Thanks Debra and borofergie. Much relieved.

Head still spinning... but that may be due to watching The Exorcist once to many times.

My last HbA1c was 5.2 which equal 33% (according to my print-out). If your '32' was the percentage, it's very good! :D - and a tiny bit lower than your last one.

Thanks viviennem. Seems to make sense.

So if 32 = 5.1, it looks like we just times the old number by 6ish to get the new number?

I managed to find a conversion formula & now keep it saved as a note in my phone as it is so confusing.

To convert from mmol/mol to the old percentage:

mmol/mol x 0.0915 + 2.15 = %

& to go the other way:

% x 10.93 - 23.5 = mmol/mol

:D
