Type two. Haven’t been checked in a few years and not done finger pricks either. Feeling out of sorts for a while. Dig out old machines. One came back 29.4. The other came back 19.2. So confused. Help to understand the readings please
 
Hi @Gingerchap and welcome to the forums.

Both those readings are very high (and worthy of a discussion with your GP in my opinion) but there is also another explanation if your machines are old. Did you check the expiry date on the test strips? If they are too old the readings won't be accurate...

The meter should be fine but you could buy some new test strips?

Or if you want to buy a new meter @Rachox has a list of some current recommended ones for UK buyers. (The cost is in the strips so it's worth getting one with economical testing strips).

But I am concerned that you haven't had a check up for a long time. When was your last hba1c test and/or eye check?
 
I don’t think I’ve had a gp check up since 2019/20. Eye test was about two years ago
 
I would definitely get some new strips for them and test again, but also, it would make sense to call the GP and ask for blood tests especially as you aren't feeling well and haven't had a check up for some time. Best of luck.

Here’s some info on UK meters, and to be clear I have no commercial connections with any of the companies mentioned.

Thanks for these links. I'm currently trying a Libre 2 but it's too expensive for me to continue with. I was using Accu-Chek and the strips are £19.99 for 50. I've just ordered the Gluco Navii reader and 250 strips. The discount code you gave does work and took £11.63 off meaning I just paid £30.45 which seems like a pretty good deal to me!
