Hi there, I am so overjoyed with how much information this forum has gave me!

One thing i am particularly interested in is knowing what to eat, and what to buy.

Unfortunately I work alot of hours, so I am snacking alot.. but I am on the lookout in the supermarket for things I can buy what I can just throw in the fridge or microwave at work.. also looking for any mini packs of things I can use as a snack!

Any information would be really helpful, I'm looking to lower my blood sugar overall.

Thankyou :)

Pork cracking/scratchings, nuts, cheese, hard boiled eggs, extra portions of meals you’ve cooked at home, cold meat, tinned fish, salad.

All depends on how many carbs you want to eat, whether you want to lose weight.

Do you have a meter to test the impact of specific foods on your blood sugars?

Are you taking any medication for your diabetes?

Hi there :) thanks for your reply.

I have purchased a meter :) I am attempting to control diabetes via diet at the moment. Retested in 6 weeks. I also have high cholesterol.. so I'm very careful what I eat lol!

My current favourite - ive been using in place of a meal but they could also be a snack I guess - low sugar, high fibre, 1-2g net carbs a pop and pre biotics - whats not to like!
Only one I havnt tried yet are the “greenies” all the others are delicious and have no / minimal effect n my sugars

I tend to eat soups at work as it's easy to work out the carbs and also eat low carb too, easy to microwave :)

Olives, cheese.

Most people find that by cutting carbs cholesterol numbers can also drop (although I wouldn't stress if they didn't personally). So I'd second the pork scratchings and mini cheese packs. I find nuts very hard to stop eating so would myself avoid those unless you can get very small packs and only take one with you!

Cook some sausages at home 95% meat many are low carb. When cold wrap in foil put them in the fridge, they will warm great in the microwave for the next day..Cook a batch of chicken drumsticks, put in microwavable container they also warm up well in the microwave..have with salad or boiled eggs. If you have a fridge in work you can take some bacon and cook it in the microwave and have 3 boiled eggs with it. Cheese, pickles, smoked sausage, nuts, cold steamed salmon with pre-cooked veg..Must admit I have gone off Pork Crackling but yes those as well. Tinned tuna.

Hi there, @TheChangingMan (great name!) - For me, working long hours didn't usually equate to snacking, it usually equated to finding myself very hungry on my long commute, but like most things in life, we're all different. :)

Whilst I can see the attraction of little packets of deliciousness, those can often end up being very expensive for what they are.

Do you or can you cook? The reason I ask is I'm thinking things like chicken drummers or thighs, for example, could be batch cooked (30-40 minutes in the oven) at say 12 at a time, thrown in the freezer and taken out as required. If you were to take 2 (or however many you decide on for a day) out of the freezer the night before, or on the morning, you'll have a ready cooked, healthy, filling meal/snack to hand which has cost you very little.

As well as chicken, you could do cold meats, decent sausages, hard boiled eggs (although I've never frozen those) and have a bit of variety.

Similarly, you could batch cook some delicious soups, freeze in portions and take one of those a day.

That way, you're not taking on board any additives, fillers or the like, unless you have added them.

Just a thought.

Yeah know what you mean, work 12hr shifts and sometimes eat all my meals at work. Cold meats with low carb coleslaw, boiled eggs, scrambled egg done in microwave, nuts, Atkins bars. Also if you in uk have a look at musclefood website, pork crunch, biltong, jerky and chicken skewers for snacks, all low carb. They now also have easy to cook low carb meals you can make night before and reheat in microwave
