I have been on Lantus and humalog for ten years now. ever since realky although gradually got worse i suffer with brain fog and i just dont feel right.

previously I was on humulin which I know is a human insulin compared to the others which are analogue.

I didnt have these problems on that. I wonder whether to ask to go back on this althougg I have heard that porcine insulin is better as well. im so confused

Doc has put me on a new analogue instead of lantus but nothing has changed.

Could human insulin be better than analogues for me? in the way they are made.Sorry for so many questions

Sounds like the brain fog started after the change in insulin, so not obviously related. If you have good control of your blood glucose control then your insulin and management is working.

What else could be causing the brain fog?

Hi. Is there any reason the GP put you on these insulins - there may be? The most popular insulins appear to be Levemir for Basal (NICE preferred) and probably NovoRapid for Bolus. They are not right for everyone but give few problems overall based on the many posts. They are not the lowest cost.

You could try swapping. Analogue insulins made me ill. I swapped to porcine and felt better within 2 or 3 days.

A number of people have reported problems with them, so it's worth a try swapping, I think. That is, to something that's not an analogue.

Hi thanks for the reply. What other options are there my doc wont put me on porcine even when i went to see him privately. I think he mentioned human insulin also but is that even different to analogues?

Did he give you a reason why you can't have porcine?

I'm not sure what regular human insulins are available on prescription now, but yes, it' is different. Regular human insulin was what I started on. The analogue insulins are also human, but, I believe, not technically insulin. They act like insulin but their component parts have been jiggled about so they act faster.

If I hadn't been able to get porcine, I'd have gone for a regular human insulin.

Edited to add that I suggest you contact the IDDT for information and support. I found them very helpful.

Lantus was terrible for me, nearly lost my job, think i suffered from symptoms of deep depression, now on levimere much better, but trying to get insulin change was like asking for gold, hope u get it sorted, good luck

Your GP has to give you the choice of insulin you take.
There's Bovine as well as Porcine to try. Perhaps tell him you want a pump that will cost some pennies ;)
