All the shop versions I've seen have sugar and syrup etc as ingredients. Any recommendations or recipes please. For my dd.

Organic cacao powder almond milk and any sweetener of your choice. don't use sweetener if you are intolerant of it. a teaspoon or so of cacao is usually enough. experiment with different milks.

The old fashioned cocoa, look for it in the cooking aisle.

Mix two teaspoons into a paste in the cup, top up with hot water and lots of lovely double cream. Yum

A sachet of Cadbury's Highlights, made up as instructed with water, is only 4.4g CHO.

Sometimes I'll have Options instead, which I think is similar (unlike the Highlights I don't have a sachet in front of me so can't confirm). I prefer Highlights - it's very chocolatey! Sometimes I'll pimp it with some coconut oil, chia seed and a square of 85% choc, but that's definitely a treat rather than for every day....!

And if you're going down the instant hot choc route I'd DEFINITELY recommend the sachets, not the jar, as you know what the exact value is if it's pre measured rather than spooned out of a jar.

:)

For breakfast I have Green and Blacks organic cocoa which you can find in Waitrose or Tesco, with organic semi skimmed milk and without adding a sweetener. I love it!

Yes, this is the way I do it, and have one every night. Rowntrees Cocoa seems one of the lowest carb at a reasonable price. Although I'll buy the organic or Green & Black if it's on offer.

Asda do an own brand 'light' instant hot chocolate. It's supposed to be made with water but if you want it more indulgent then try making it with almond milk! It's chocolaty and nutty!! My LO loves it!

I have Bournville Cocoa and that's what I give my non-diabetic children too. The commercial hot chocolates are overly sweet, in my opinion. I also find cocoa more economical than drinking chocolate.

It's easy to make it up as you require with milk, cream, sugars, sweeteners, etc, and that way you're in control of the carbs.
