So this is interesting
I haven't had a drink since being diagnosed but Christmas will soon be here?
Now wine I would have thought would have natural sugars in??
But for what you guys say it's sounding good.
I was going to stick to gin and slimline..
But glad there may be a social life after all

One a week I will drink ONE bottle of Castillo Diablo Red Wine (probably 24g carbs)
whilst playing WOW (game) and it never spikes my BS morning readings (usualy 5.4-5.6 mmol)
I dont eat carbs now so that might be why i get away with 24g in one hit

BUT I tried 4 tins of beer "coors lite" a few days ago (20g carbs) and next day morning readings were 6.6-6.8 mmol
And my GERD was instantly back - how weird (omeprazole to the rescue)

There's something evil in these grains ya know :¬)

P.S> I like Viskey and Whodka too - Hic! Burp! - Scuse me! :¬)

Northarnangel, if you read the leaflet that comes with met no you should not drink if you are taking it. That said almost every drug I have ever been prescribed says the same. As long as you don't go mental I am sure the odd drink is okay

Hi carb Foods
I think it's just a case of being aware of the danger of lactic acidosis and keeping an eye out for it's symptoms, just in case!

According to my book Carbs & Cals

250ml red wine has 1 carb, 170 calories, and is 3 alcohol units.
250ml dry white wine has 2 carbs, 165 calories, and 3 units of alcohol
250ml sweet white wine has 15 carbs, 235 calories, and 3 units of alcohol

Alliebee Metformin does say avoid alcohol but dosent say DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL ,and it dosent shout out at you,I think it may be warning binge drinkers, could be wrong about that, buts thats how I want to read it,I think.

My doc says its the pharmacy companies that cover their insurance by these warnings. I know several docs ( work collegues ) on met and they drink like fishes. Think you are right about binge drinkers.
