Regular moderate exercise log

Welcome to the thread @Jaz006! We're a friendly bunch and great at celebrating achievements.

My exercise level was about identical to yours, except it was walk to the bus stop... three years on I'm now just off to walk to the city centre 6 miles away. By choice. Before it gets too hot!! Walking tends to happen early and late at the moment, and am regularly reminding myself a siesta is good in the heat.

I would love a siesta in the afternoon but as I work for the NHS and we are mega busy. No can do.

Walking as much as I can. Wish I could ditch the aid.
I'm going to ask for tips when I see MSK again.

@Japes spent a second or two thinking about googling the scandinavian footballer Elder Godson before I twigged:banghead: @Goonergal the rest will do those shins good. @DJC3 good day there. I managed 8lk steps and 36 mins on static bike with average hr of 122. Odd time because I set my mind on making a set distance.

That would make him laugh - he's no footballer, and definitely not Scandinavian. He's a gorgeous young man in his mid-20s now, who very obligingly loves his godmother as much as I love him. When I told him my duties were technically over at his confirmation he was so outraged at the thought I might no longer take any interest in him I meekly continued exactly as I had been doing. Younger Godson, his sibling, had exactly the same reaction - and to this day I continue to take a firm interest in their lives, celebrate everything with them, and generally be another supportive adult. (To be fair, I'd no intention of doing otherwise, but strongly felt it should be their choice as confirmation was their choice and would've stepped back if they'd said so.)

In the meantime, this morning's exercise is mostly going to consist of playing the organ for a wedding. There will be Second Breakfast around 10.00 a.m. as I have no intention of having a hypo around 12.00 noon just as it's all in mid-flow and it's definitely being videoed... Yep, that would make for a memorable wedding for all the wrong reasons!

Quite what I do once it's all done will be weather dependent... but there's always out of term time deep clean housework if all else fails.

Tried to train shoulders this morning, side lat raises 25kg 10x10, push press 120kg 5x3, face pulls 100kg 5x10, rear delts 40kg 5x8 and finished with close grip push downs 18plates on the machine (nearly died it was so heavy) and then relax.

Walking is hugely less out of breathe. Painkillers are great as long as I take them 30mins before walking.
I'm less wobberly on metformin tablet but I've noticed when upset tum kicks in from IBS and metformin side affect, i'm wobbly again. (loss of electrolytes??)
I was blaming iron deficiency but been assured its good now. :)
Still stopping inbetween walks but stronger at standing and waiting on my feet. :) :) :)

A first today. Got myself to the swimming pool for opening time only to be told that both pools closed as “there’s no chlorine in them”!!

Oh no. I'd cry. After all my effort to get there and in.
Hug from me. Any other pool nearby?
Our local quarter length pool was sooo unreliable. Large aquatic pool for divers open more often. I walk into pool too.

Where as small one's walk-in steps are in lessons area. Everyone looks. Very badly thought out. On Tuesday after school the lessons hog the small pool so no lengths just a square to mess about in. I'm convinced my disc was first interfered with by cold pool water/conditions then red hot showers. I was there to improve my health, it made me unable to walk or swim. Stupid mini pool. At least in hotels its far warmer.

Only other one has floor to ceiling windows onto a main road. I may have slimmed down a bit, but definitely not up for that! Will give this one another go tomorrow morning. Went for the first time on Tuesday and really enjoyed it.

Wedding all over and done with, traditional music played and came off nicely, hymns better sung than predicted, Theme and Variations on Jerusalem during the Signing of the Register went on a bit, but I was ready for that and had numerous ideas for the variations.

As forecast rain set in with great enthusiasm so today's exercise will be a happy dance! Deep cleaning can wait, I'm tired.

An interesting observation - playing the organ for my own pleasure and enjoyment lowers my blood sugars slightly, however, if I'm playing for a service if usually raises it slightly. Or significantly depending on how much stress was involved...

Saturday shoulder session, keeping on the training light for a couple of weeks theme, dumb bell press to 22kg x8 (from 18kg x 12, 20kg x 10) and back down to the 18's, then barbell press up to 45kg x 6 which hurt. front raises to 16kg, sides the same, face pulls to 30kg and trap rows up to the same, happy enough as that's 2 full weeks back under my belt :)

I will have done about 14.5K steps by the end of the day. Feel a bit guilty I haven't done anything else but I am hoping my idea that quality of exercise trumps just putting in time for the sake of making up the hours. Not sure I have convinced myself with this post but the idea seemed right in my mind:arghh:

Morning all. Pleased to report that chlorine had been restored at local swimming pool this morning. 30 minutes of lengths completed. Hasn’t brought on usual hunger, but boy am I sleepy.

It seems that it’s front crawl that brings on cramps - was doing fine until I tried that. Any tips on avoiding from fellow swimmers?

If it ever stops raining and I wake up, will attempt an afternoon walk but quite enjoying a rare lazy weekend where I’m not racing around like a mad thing (or Duracell bunny as @ianpspurs so aptly puts it).

If you're starting out try 2 length sets with a rest between, to 'trim' your stroke see if the pool has a 'pull buoy' you can use (held between legs to float them to concentrate on the arm stroke) and try a 'paddle board' to concentrate your kicks, getting your breathing right is a help too, the book says alternate sides for the body roll :)

Cramps aren't unusual early on and a few months pool time will see them disappear!

Thanks @kev-w very helpful. When I was much, much younger I was quite a good swimmer but it is several years since I’ve done anything other than splash about in a hotel pool.

Enjoying getting back to it.

And to update on the rest of the day, managed to get out for a bit of a stroll this afternoon so added 11,636 steps to the swim.

Evening all. 12k steps today as data and general feeling suggested not quite right and as per yesterday's post I think exercise needs to be purposeful to be effective.
