Regular moderate exercise log

@Safi can answer for himself but Australian diabetes sites are IMO utter garbage. I'll kick my country anytime it suits and in this instance, no hesitation.

That surprises me because years and years ago, when I was at the pre-diabetes stage, it was an Australian friend who started to give me links to articles about low GI diets - at a stage when no-one in the UK was talking about them. I got the impression you were a bit ahead of us.

Not posted for a week or so as been busy walking ;-) just back from 10 km along the beach and back. Started to incorporate a bit of jogging on and off and it's really paying off , I get less and less tired each day.
I consider myself lucky to be able to do this living where I do, it's a constant 32 degree C year round here so I do feel for you this time of year in the UK. If it's any consolidation, Christmas isn't really Christmas out here.

The best news is my sugar levels have dropped significantly and are fairly stable now at around 5 each morning never going above 7 through the day. This was from levels between 8 and 12 swinging dramatically. I'm convinced it's the exercise and weight loss that's paying the dividends.

Best of luck everyone, hope I can give some encouragement and a very merry Christmas to one and all

Well done with your reduced levels but now you will have to keep up the exercise as it is working for you.

Indeed I will, it's the best part of my day. I feel really fulfilled after coming home for my cold shower. I'm 54 years old and other than school in the way distant past I've done very little exercise my whole life. Diabetes is my punishment for this but has also been the wake up call I needed.

What's made you use the Diabetes UK forum? Is it better than what Australia has?

When I started googling for info this site came up with the answers most of the time. There were a few others that came up quite frequently but many seemed a bit highly strung for me - the people here obviously take the condition seriously but seem far less doom & gloomy. Anyhoo - everyone was very knowledgeable, friendly & helpful so here I am :) Come to think of it I don't recall coming across any Australian forums but @Mike D was right about the information on offer - it's largely the same outdated stuff you find elswhere.

Did a 10km walk early this morning & followed up with a nice 90min or so gentle kayak. We usually cycle on Sundays but the weather was more walk-friendly.

@Safi

Thank you. DCUK is not perfect but it does a good job as it connects people, most of whom you'll never meet, crosses borders many could never imagine and provides an invaluable source of information. For nothing.

We give freely of our experiences, share what we can, wish no-one any harm and want the best outcome for a condition others endure that we'd never assign to our worst enemies.

Many listen, others wait to talk, and some simply don't read. Doesn't stop the help. Wisdom in discerning the difference is everything

I think it's great that it is a world wide community and we can learn from each other. We are all trying to manage our diabetes in the best possible way.

5 miles walking yesterday.

3 miles today. First time for awhile I haven't done 10,000 steps but positively I did over 8,000 so must be averaging over 10,000 a day.

Quite a lot of waking today in Hyde Park and around there. No idea of distance. But enough to get very very wet in the rain.

My day's walking's also a bit up and down. As soon as my monitor gets up to a goal of above 10,000 something happens and I have a day when I maybe only do 5,000, so down the goal goes again. Overall, it's going up, though. In other words, we're doing OK aren't we?

Hi all, yesterday was a 5 mile walk. This made up for my stupidity on Sat, where I went to the gym without any sacks so had to turn round and go home again! I felt so stupid but could not risk hypo with nothing to treat. Otherwise hae been generally rubbish at moving abut due to work and family commitments. Promise to try and get back on track this Xmas break.

Do you actually see a difference in your test results after a phase with less activity?

Yes, I've been less active the last week or so, though in my case it's because I've been trying out some new bolus types for fat and protein and didn't want to complicate my readings by adding exercise into the mix. One factor at a time. But I seem to have just about cracked it so I should be able to add the exercise back in now.

Hello. Yes, I had a few higher than usual, but not frighteningly high and oddly I was lower than usual in the mornings. I expect that if I left it for a month I would see numbers creeping up.

Managed a 7km walk before the rain set in this morning - at least 2km of it up hill so not too bad. Should do some yoga (if only for neck rehab) but I do find it boring. Feel good afterwards of course but it's a long, boring half hour in the doing!

I feel like that about swimming - boring in the extreme. Walking, I do at least have a choice of different places and different routes. and in good weather I can combine it with some time sitting drawing in a sketchbook, which I really like doing. If the weather's bad, I often do my walks listening to podcasts downloaded onto my phone.

I have found even gentle walking is helping. Well done on your progress.
