Hi i was diagnosed on the 31st October 2017 with 65mmol/ll now had it confirmed that my last HBA1C had reduced to 41 mmol. I am ecstatic but GP and DN were happier. Achieved on 2 x 500 Metformin (reduced to one tablet daily as I never remember to take the one in the evening anyway) and lowish carbs and increased exercise. Progressive GP surgery and DN were very supportive and prescribed me strips and lancets since October. Just got to tackle my cholesterol now which is slightly high and like all GPs they want to prescribe statins . No way So now have to carry on for the next 12 months without tripping myself up and will have to buy my strips in future to carry on testing but worth it!

Congratulations well done on your hard work pat on back well deserved. Pleased you have supportive GP and DN too. Keep on going in same direction most of us type 2s self fund strips well worth it but maybe consider changing your meter if strips expensive us self funders tend to get one with the cheapest strips.
Well done again time to celebrate in a low carb fashion of course!

Well done! Keep up the great work.

Very well done!
Just a note you might be interested in, my cholesterol figures deteriorated in the first few months of low carb eating, this has been explained to me that rapid weight loss can cause this. If you lost weight that may explain yours too. My cholesterol figures have subsequently improved.

That's brilliant - well done you! My cholesterol is also slightly high since changing my diet to low carb but on closer inspection I've realised the HDL to triglycerides ratio has now improved, and it is the ratios that matter - my nurse agrees with on this. Can you get a print out of all your latest results - this will let you know the full picture - and come back to this forum with questions about the results if you need to.

What is the number/limit for the good/healthy ratio?

As @Bluetit1802 says. I've read that 1 or under for trigs to HDL is good. Mine is 1 at the moment which is better than when I started (I don't have any data for trigs before starting but my HDL has gone from too low to ok now). I hope to get an even better ratio (ie. under 1) as I continue to lose weight on LCHF.

Last year I had these numbers:
Chol: 5.9; HDL 1.21; LDL 4.07; TG 2.19
HbA1c 39

What is the good time to start fasting before blood taking? And what type of the fast?

Just the normal 8 to 12 hours or thereabouts. No alcohol the night before, and only water on the day. I try to get my appointments in the mornings, so my overnight fast with no breakfast is just right.

will do that. I have blood check at 7:15 am. So I will not eat from the lunch day before...

I popped your figures in here to get your ratios - http://www.hughcalc.org/chol-si.php so at the moment your trigs to HDL ratio is 1.8 - so the aim would be to lower it 1 or under. Have you been losing weight - if so, cholesterol figures can be unreliable until your weight has stabilised for a while.
