I see my endo for a pituitary problem and it was his view that taking the max daily dosage, if it can be tolerated, is of great benefit.I don't have an endocrinologist unfortunately, I am only seen by my GP in respect of my type 2.

The evidence of the effects of Metformin beyond blood glucose control is now strong. Many existing medications are being investigated for repurposing, including exenatide for its neuro-protective properties for people with Parkinson’s Disease. That research is also positive. Of course, you are under no obligation to take any medication, whether for its original or repurposed use. All medications have possible side effects and if side effects are a problem then perhaps the medication is not for you. Others may not get any side effects and may be able to benefit from original and repurposed benefits.I have read the article - it is full of mays and mights.
I am definitely amongst those who do not do well at all on Metformin and a statin - which one of them did the most damage, or caused the most anguish I can't tell and I am not prepared to make the experiment to find out. Not willingly.
Does the re-purposing also mean re-patenting? not that I have a persecution complex about big Pharma but....The evidence of the effects of Metformin beyond blood glucose control is now strong.
