Research for after ND - alcohol and snacks

Hi, I'm currently doing the Newcastle diet, I'm just doing a bit of research for when I'm done, I like a bottle or two of dry white wine on a Saturday, I normally have a sharing packets of revels or a packet of chocolate peanuts and a Indian meal (without rice) but with starters or a large pizza.

My question is, I know I have to increase my carb count when I am drinking but am I over doing it with what I'm eating?
(I know it will be a high calorie count.)

What do other people eat when they are having a drink?

I often drink dry red wine before going to bed and as I already have a evening meal in my belly I don't eat anything and it seems to have minimal affect on my BGs.

I don´t think red wine is supposed to be a part of the newcasttle diet... the whole point in the newcasttle diet is to clear ones liver of the fats that do disturb ones liver function and ones pancreas.(that is the theory behind the NewCasttle diet )
Alcohol in any ways are understood like poison to the liver and the good feeling one gets from alcohol doesn´t mean it is healthy for the liver in any ways

alcohol can stop the livers processes and lower them too in smaler amount, but that is due to the reaction from the liver trying to clean the body from the alcohol/poison

So I would think the NewCasttle diet is only done propperly doing without alcohol in the 8 weeks it is supposed to last..

Thanks Freema, I don't want to sound cheeky, But I think you have misread my post, I have said it is for after I finish the Newcastle diet and In my post I have not mentioned red wine that's on another post, But I did say dry white wine

yes I did misread your text sorry
well I hope you succeed with your newcasttle diet first and can after that be able to eat more normal again... most people do gain all they loose again , so that´ll probably be the hardest aspect of maintaining the good results one might have from the newcasttle diet..
but I myself do like a whisky once in a while... but is it good for the liver ? I think not..

but hope you´ll enjoy whatever you do... also your dry white wine... red is by the way a bit healthier...

These days I tend to drink wine with meals, otherwise I like a few small bits of cheese and nuts. There are some great recipes on the interwebs for low-carb crackers, which are great for nibbling on while drinking.

What makes you think you have to eat extra carbs when drinking dry white (or red) wine? Just drink moderate amounts with a normal low carb meal. I have never done the ND but I do read posts from others that have. I understand the idea is to eat normal low carb meals.. That way you have more chance of maintaining good BS control and putting your weight where you want it to be. Otherwise you run the risk of being back where you started.

I would suggest that as wine is calorific, and large pizzas are very calorific, these will not do weight loss aspirations any good, and the pizza will certainly be bad for your blood sugars. You could well undo any good your 8 week ND has done.

I agree. I see no reason to increase the carbs when drinking - I don't. I think that idea comes from the risk that when going hypo when drinking the liver will be too busy dumping the alcohol that it can't do an emergency glycogen dump. Just try to avoid a hypo if on insulin or Gliclazide.

Cor that food and drink sounds a huge ND Celebration! I think your body as a whole from that after the ND will feel overloaded...

A nice dry white wine has no effect on my bloods.. but boy, the food would!!

Hi how do I know my pancreas is functioning again following ND? Has anyone had an MRI on their pancreas liver to defeat content on the NHS?

Pizza is not a SNACK and wine has enough carb to keep BS steady. If you want to eat pizza and wine have at it but its not doing you anyfavors. I myself like my cocktails but don't ever think pizza or other food will balance it. You just need to test to see how you respond
