Resistive starch - I ate a Banana and lived - What are your experiences?

I’d think it was the 6 miles of walking as your dawn phenomenon wore off that counteracted the banana rather than the banana being fine. See what happens if you eat it in the afternoon without the walking , my money is on a much worse outcome bgl wise

Also not sure how it’ll help you gain weight if you burn it straight off. I guess at least it’s not body fat your burning this way maybe.
There are only the options of putting on fat or muscle (or both together). The only way to build muscle is to do a weights program, whether at home or a gym. Walking wont do it, nor running.

Also consider if there is an underactive thyroid, this causes all sorts of problems.

In the early T2 days I had my ususal smoothie for breakfast - banana, kale, etc. Downed it then... promptly felt into a deep sleep for an hour. Woke still holding the NutriBeaker. Then I learned on here about carbs and have missed my bananas ever since.
A while back I experimented with a half a plantain, fried in butter. Surely I could tolerate that? Nope double figures all afternoon. Anyone know if Aunt Bessie do Frozen Roasted Banana slices?

The days when I walk a lot or run a bit are the ones where I finish the day with lower BG levels. I was about to say ‘I’m considering whether my Thyroid is underactive but not getting me very far’ but decided that might sound rude so I’ve done a little research. Several of the symptoms fit but several don’t. I guess I should mention it next time I see the Endocrinologist. The worst symptom is what I thought was neuropathy, lots of tingles in my arms, legs, feet and hands and real discomfort from cold, cold has never bothered me.
 
I’ve avoided Bananas like the plague since DX in June, I tried ripe ones back then and they really spiked my BG. Today i tested at 9am and got a reading of 9.6, I’m always high in the morning. After egg n bacon at 9, at 10.15 I ate a yellow, nearly ripe (tasty and sweet but firm) Banana. It was divine. I then walked about 3 miles and less than 2 hours later was still at 8 and 3 hours later and 3 more miles was down to 6.6.
What experiences have you had with resistive starch?
My next experiment will be not fully cooked potatoes.
BTW this is all in an effort to try and put weight on.

I regularly have a banana and apple smoothie for my lunch it also has oat milk in it with a small amount of honey. The carbs vary depending on the weight of both banana and apple but will be approximately 50 to 55g of carbs. my blood sugars are averaging at 5.8 before meals and 6.8 after meals. The smoothie is homemade and is delicious!

Forgive me, but your 55g smoothie has more carbs in it than I can cope with for a whole day. All the fructose in the fruit would go straight to my liver and I would see a return to the fatty liver I had at diagnosis. My bg would take hours to come down from a fruit smoothie with oats and honey plus I would be hungry within a couple of hours because the fruit has very little useful fibre to slow down the digestion.

As a general rule (and a good one) one should eat fruit not drink it.

You sound like you have your insulin regime well sorted. :)

Your liver/pancreas team are obviously working well but surely pushing them like that is a bad idea. If eaten the fruit raises your BG more slowly and is less likely to bring on diabetes?

ManicCarbCounter has Type 1 Diabetes. Hence he/she can have a normal diet of choice plus insulin.

If you want to build muscle, you may consider high intensity interval training.
Walking will build stamina, but it won't pack on the bulk.

The appeal of HIIT is (for me) that it doesn't take much in the way of time, and it is enough to only do a very few minutes. I got myself a kettlebell (aka as The Doorstop) and a few simple kettlebell excercises (less than 10 mins twice a week), done with concentration and 'to failure' made huge improvements in an astonishingly short time.

Of course, then I injured my back again stepping badly off a kerb, and it went back to being The Doorstop.
Really should start it up again.

Do you take insulin for this meal? Even if you don't, I do think the way a type 2 body works can be very different to a type 1's. Your body will have a constant supply of insulin in it, immediately able to start working(thanks to injections of novarapid or lantus etc) so may be able to cope with such a meal, a type 2's is more likely to have problems processing such a meal under their own steam possibly due to their insulin not getting through so to put it under this pressure is asking for trouble.

I'd break my blood monitor just by LOOKING at your smoothie!

If that works for you then that is good it may not suit some others but it suits you and that is all that matters
