Reversing side-effects

Hi all. I am about to start a completely new regime, hopefully as low carb as I can go. I have also bought a Nutribullet, and would love to hear anyone's experience with that. My question is this - there is much talk about curing diabetes, but surely you are only ever in remission? Back to my real question - can you reverse neuropathy?

Until there is a "cure", yes, you are in remission based upon your BS Hba1c readings. 2nd question? Some suggest yes, others have their doubts and some claim halting progress with good control

Hi..

Forgive me for asking but why do you believe that a Nutribullet will help to reduce your carb intake?...

I use my nutribullet daily, - spinach, kale, avocado, celery, cucumber, frozen berries, walnuts, squeeze of lemon. I also use hemp seeds and cacoa powder. Lovely.

I think a Nutribullet would be helpful too. I never fancy breakfast really but I'm sure I could manage a nice healthy juice. It's on my wish list.

Hi...I wasn't splitting hairs, nor being 'clever' ... My concern was that could there be a risk that higher carb fruit and veg be taken...as 'juices' are supposedly 'healthy'. I have a friend who isn't DB- but seriously overweight due to a combination of steroids, a serious medical condition and a lack of basic/simple exercise. He bought himself a NB...for the best of reasons. The next thing I know he's making himself beautiful strawberry, banana, orange etc smoothies/ juices....with little health benefits in terms of weight gain.

Green juices are quite different from your friends, it will be hard to educate him because he thinks fruit is healthy, when actually its only seasonal, heyho global purchasing power eh.

Nutribullits are fine if you are not diabetic or prediabetic.
They do have health benefits for those lucky enough not to have insulin and glucose problems.
But even too many smoothie can be harmful for normals!

However and I've done this before today @Brunneria is a dab hand and knows some great green smoothie.

I don't think anyone here would be doing that but green smoothies are very healthy for everyone

Sorry nosher but disagree. As has been said, it depends what you put in them and I'm sure there's plenty of low carb things that can be made into smoothies. Correct me if I'm wrong though. Am I missing something?

It's in the concentration of the smoothie. Fruit is not so good for blood glucose levels and concentration means it will rocket your levels.
However, and I did say that Brunneria has actually got some great green smoothie recipes.
That won't up your blood glucose levels.

Didn't mean to confuse you @copey399 !

Yes, you can reverse neuropathy and many other complications (but not diabetes itself). It depends upon on how much damage you have. Dr. Bernstien is the how-to. Basically, you need to maintain normal blood glucose (A1c < 4.7 and BG ~4.6) along with minimum insulin levels and insulin resistance. A ketogenic diet (less than 30g carbs per day) is the first step.

I forgot to add: it takes time measured in months to years to reverse neuropathy assuming you maintain normoglycemia during that period.

Hi All.
My experience since being diagnosed in August last year has been that your diet is key to everything.
I have lost a total of 32 Kg (originally 112 Kg) over the last 14 months and have stuck to diet that at first was almost zero carbs.(size 40 jeans down to 34) This was a problem with energy levels so I went to see a specialist nutritional doc and they put me on a diet that counts GL and not GI this has helped me a lot and today from my original blood count of 28 I am now averaging around 5.5.
The idea is to ingest a maximum GL of 100 per day eating foods that only have a maximum load of 10.
This worked for me, not sure if this will work for anyone else.
The positives that come out of eating properly, for me, is that today I only take one 500 mg Glucophage slow release per day to help with the slightly higher carb intake.
As well as since November last year I could stop taking high blood pressure, and Cholesterol pills.
Hope this is helpful.

An alternative to the GL diet is a ketogenic diet. I'm currently at around 10g carbs per day and my energy levels are fine.

I'm going to bit the bullet, and invest in one it'll be an attempt to solve my night time high, currently having to have a snack at 2am and 5am to avoided DP also I was on the go from 10am through to 1:30pm and forgot to take a snack with me ended up skipping my lunchtime food.

Yesterday log went

1:11am 6.5 had half a lidl cheese roll
3:59am 6.5 had he other half
6:34am 7.3 got up had 3 egg, mushroom and Quorn pieces omelette
7:34 checked BG 7.9
8:45 checked BG 7.3
09:49 had some Brazil nuts went for a walk BG 8.6 pre exercise.
13:33 Post exercise and errands, 13.3

It's been a pattern, if I miss eating for more than around 4hrs regardless of what I'm doing my BG will bump up by at least 4+
Or in yesterday's approx 3hr and a BG leap of 4.7

I had food straight away slim no carb pasta, mushroom spinach Quorn chicken pieces in a piri glaze made from crucials sauce which is low in carbs.
1hr post meal BG down to 10.4 by bed time and another meal and snack BG 7.5

It's pretty much a pain having to eat during the night and takes more effort, so my thinking is it would be easier to make a drink and have it ready for my night time bathroom trips and take one out when I'm out and about, so i will give the nutribullet a go as I could probably do with eating more greens.

Edited to add yesterday was just a bit of a blip, but this happen whenever I lose focus, recently BG is normally consistently 5-7 also I'm meant to be on 3 different diabetic medications, but stopped them all nearly 3 months ago.
