Hi guys -

Watching the news about the riots in different parts of London and Birmingham, we just want to put out a message urging (if you can) to have backup supplies of diabetes management equipment/accessories - test strips, insulin, whatever you need in order to manage your diabetes.

If the worst should happen, we want to be prepared. Hopefully, it won't.

Last night when I read this I actually thought you were scarmongering..

So I turned the telly on and the 24 hour news..

To realise that the riots had reached Croydon, where my bother lives I have yet to contact him

Also some rioting and looting in Birmingham, Liverpool and Bristol. It does make you wonder where it will end and do the Police have the resources to cope?

Very disturbing and worrying and just hope it ends soon! :(

I got up in the night to sort my back pain out and while a gel pad was heating up I scanned the forums I visit and on a fishing forum it was reported by someone who went to pick up his sister lives in Croydon and who was scared, he thought he would drive back through South Croydon as it would be quieter and ended up in the thick of it, he saw shops and offices burning and people apparently dragging things like TV's down the road and looting everything they could carry, he says he saw no police.
It is all very worrying and you have to wonder how it will end, over 400 arrests now just in London alone and as |I understand it our prisons are all already full , what are these anarchists going to be handed out by the courts, community service? They have absolutely no concept of community they were burning their communities last night. How stupid have you got to be to burn down your own community? Some very disturbing images emerging this morning.

OK rant over, I do hope your brother is OK jo.

Re: Riots in London and Birmingham + access to diabetes supp

I've been watching it most of the night and this morning on TV, now they saying as well as liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and nearer to me Bristol!

There's all sorts being banded around the media all suggesting that these people are disfranchised, disolusioned poverty stricken individuals... Sorry the only ones to blame is each individual who took part they have a choice they don't have to follow others like blind sheep..

It's hard watching the innocent ones who got caught up in all this as yes it must have been very frightening to face what they faced and not know when the police would be able to come to their aid... Unknown to them they wouldn't that 1,700 extra police officers were on the streets of London, nor would they know that Police who weren't trained to tackle such public disorder, were willing to go out face the mob, just with batton, their stab Jackets and a hard hat and if they were lucky a riot shield! Now I don't care what people think of police officer but it take some breavery and commitment to duty to risk your life...

The police was fully stretched to their limits, perhaps it's time to use our army to back our police force..

Oh the way forward out of this..

Start making youngsters and adults alike take responsibility for their actions..

No more aww, they from a single parent family. aww they life in a deprived area etc.. Bring back the displine that we've ignored for decades..

As yet I've still haven't heard from my brother

Your police ought to fill a heap of shot guns with salt and get shooting. What a horror to see London and surrounds burning. We are all facing hard economic times and these people have made that sort of recovery an even slower process. I hope all of you and your families stay safe.

Re: Riots in London and Birmingham + access to diabetes supp

We waiting for our err PM to make a speach as 11am..

Now if he's come out with the lame statements that I've been hearing..

Problem Jen, if the police go in too hard they get moaned at accused of brutality, last night they was criticised that they didn't go in tough enough..

Apparently the calling all the specials in! Now Specials are only voluenteer officers!

And I've got in contact with my brother hes safe..

Re: Riots in London and Birmingham + access to diabetes supp

Yes glad your brother is OK jo.

I cant help but think of the lyrics of Panic by The Smiths

Panic on the streets of London
Panic on the streets of Birmingham
I wonder to myself
Could life ever be same again ?

Re: Riots in London and Birmingham + access to diabetes supp

Glad your brother is ok Jo

It's worrying just what is going to happen tonight - the scarey thing is they have no cause - it's just mindless thuggery so the powers that be have no "bargaining tool" so to speak - they don't want anything and fear nothing - and I honestly think with all the cuts we don't have the police power to deal with it - we don't even have the army power anymore.

everyone stay safe (())

Re: Riots in London and Birmingham + access to diabetes supp

If they all like fighting and looting so much ,,

Would send them all off to Afghanistan

Re: Riots in London and Birmingham + access to diabetes supp

Amazing.

We have people in the `MIddle East fighting for freedom and we have youths here fighting for a new TV or IPad.

Re: Riots in London and Birmingham + access to diabetes supp

So glad your brother is ok Jo.

I have also been watching everything on Sky news and am horrified. Time to call in the army i think before it spreads any further.

Re: Riots in London and Birmingham + access to diabetes supp

The Army is too stretched fighting wars that the majority of us did not want.

THis article explains the mentality that abounds with some of these rioters.

One particular idiot is suggesting that rioters should show Londoners what a real riot means.

Re: Riots in London and Birmingham + access to diabetes supp

If the Government sends in the Army then we know that we are in real trouble, the Government won't turn it's army on it's own people...

Why do people have to say we've got to understand the reason why the kids are rioting the youngest arrested last night was 11 years old

These are critins with no respect for anything or anybody... The 'Blame' society that we've created where people aren't accountable for their actions has bitten us on the backside...

I hope that the criminal justice system upholds Camerons statement... If you are hold enought to do the crime, you'll old enough to to take the punishment..

And I also agree that the police use robust policing, if you don't want to be smacked, pushed over or hit with a police battern, then don't turn up to the riot simples..

Re: Riots in London and Birmingham + access to diabetes supp

I fear for the safety of all those innocents that are caught up in this mindless violence, heaven knows what impact this will have on people coming to the capital to participate or watch the Olympics Games given these pictures are broadcast throughout the world.

Re: Riots in London and Birmingham + access to diabetes supp

I really hope that everyone who lives in an affected area in the UK is safe tonight, Lewisham hospital was trashed last night allegedly and is now closed as is Bromley's Princess Royal Hospital my wife was allowed to leave early if she chose to but she stayed till her usual time, I assume they are open for emergencies but all departments are now closed apparently it is all very worrying.

Many local shops are now boarded up in anticipation for another night of unrest while the PM says they will pursue the rioters and they will face the full force of the law, well thats encouraging Mr Cameron.

Really be safe out there tonight.

Re: Riots in London and Birmingham + access to diabetes supp

I echo Sid's wishes that everyone in the affected areas has no problems tonight.

Keep safe.

Is this the start of the Big Society we keep hearing about? :?:

Re: Riots in London and Birmingham + access to diabetes supp

Luckily my office in Wolverhampton city centre had the good sense to shut early and get everyone home before the worst of the trouble broke out, and thankfully we have not seen anywhere near as bad a situation as some of the other areas. Just hope that this is the end of it. Not looking forward to going back into the city centre to work tomorrow. Even if nothing hapens, everyone will be on edge.
