Quite astonished, met someone new to to my craft group today and she heard a friend ask me how my "Diabetes was going!"

I laughed and said it hadn't "gone" far enough when this woman asked me if I had T1 .....the "serious Diabetes, or T2, the self inflicted not so bad Diabetes!

First time for ages I have been lost for words lol!

The media sure does have a lot to answer for with this ignorant 'Correlation=Causation' BS that creates such c%^&y false stereotypes!

Look on the bright side - it gave you the chance to practice your "withering look" pose (which I hope you did, by the way!)
Agree with lucy - we need a gobsmacked icon!

Hope you put her right.

oooh I wouldn't have been lost for words. Ha ha. Far from it. I think she might have been a little surprised at the number of words I would have used. :D

Another idea if it happens again, @Geminigirl (and I sincerely hope it never does) is to build a short 'lecture' around @kokhongw's info post and other info on the web, and launch into that. Use as many big words as possible. It'll either educate the idiot so they don't hurt anyone else or send them to sleep - both would count as a result. ;)

I will say that it astonishes me on here sometimes too, when someone who should know better, trots out the 'its your fault you are fat - you eat too much and are lazy - you brought it on yourself' line.

People are ignorant but would we know anything about diabetes if we hadn't been diagnosed with it ourselves? before diagnosis I had no idea what it involved.

Hey dont worry about it...ignorant views ..happens a lot..even on here...i was recently 'told off' for commenting on a discussion by a far superior diabetic ...lol

That happens a lot here. Also I keep getting told I need to be on insulin, and to ask my GP for those expensive tests to see if I am properly DX'ed.

Just because I have a certain DX, it does not make me an expert in it or even a specialist. Conversly, my DX does not make me blind to other topics being discussed, or prevent me researching around my subject. I can understand it if someone wants to point out to me where a nugget of info I share could be harmful or may not be relevant to an OP, but then this in itself is also useful data for others reading the thread. This is what discussion should be about.
