I occasionally run out of metformin because the GP willl only give me a months supply at once and I have to work away and sometimes have to go a couple of days until I can apply for the next one. Is this something I need to worry about? I eat totally low cab during those 2 days, no bread, nothing with sugar in it. Is this enough?>

Why not explain to your dr that you have to work away? He/she should provide you with medication to cover you.

Yes, you should be able to get more than one month at a time if you ask. The only time they don't like doing this is when you are changing dosages. I don't have to see my GP to get a new prescription, my surgery has an online system. You could also register with your local pharmacy for your repeat prescriptions and they will order it for you.

Metformin only on average lowers blood sugar by 1 - 2 mmols at maximum dose of 2000 mg per day, so what you do with your diet makes more of a difference.

Yes, diet makes a lot more difference than the Metformin. My surgery has an online system. I can always do an early script saying I'm going on holiday. I also, month by month, move the date forward by a day or so. Over time I can build up a small buffer stock.
