Rybelsus on prescription

Hi,

I’m a type 2 diabetic recently put onto Rybelsus with Metformin reduced. I’ve a history of paying privately for the weight loss injections and having Victoza on prescription in the past.
Coming to the end of first month and I’m confused.

At no point did the diabetic nurse indicate this was a short term thing.

I’m now hearing this medication was just on trial via the nhs ??? and when I’ve gone to order as a repeat it appears as a one time prescription.

That can often happen when you start a new medication, to see if you can tolerate it/side effects etc. Best thing to do is to ring the surgery tomorrow and ask for it to be put on your repeat prescription list, and if there is a problem, ask the receptionist to speak the nurse who prescribed it or ask for an appointment.

Hi @Spine Wars 2023 , I’m on Rybelsus and have been for a few months since Victoza became unavailable. Can I ask what dose you are on, only the recommendation, and what happened to me, is that you take 3mg daily for the first thirty days then go up to 7mg? This allows your body to get used to the medication. This might explain why your first Rybelsus prescription was only a one off month’s supply.

Thank you I thought it strange as the diabetic nurse only called earlier this week asking how it was going.

I’ve tried to add it manually with Pharmacy2u who have also done 2 medication phone checks in last month not mentioning the trial business either just someone on a spinal support group said don’t rely on getting it on prescription.

They started me on 3mg with it set to rise up. On Victoza they kept me capped at 1.2mg so it is all interesting. I get Rybelsus from the gp surgery not hospital.

My brother got it from hospital as he is much more severe diabetic and he has just decided to give it up.

I would call your surgery and get the 7mgs put on repeat. I haven’t been told there is any limit to how long I can take it for and have it on repeat.

I only ever went to 1.2mg on Victoza and it looks like I’ll stay on 7mg of Rybelsus (there is the option for 14mg) as my blood sugars are well controlled on 7 along with my low carb diet. Gradual weight loss has occurred with both meds.

I got the same, 4mg as a single prescription and then had to go back for a check up on how I was tolerating it and get the 7mg put on repeat. I was however told I could only stay on it if I lost at least 10% of my bodyweight in the first 6 months
