HI friends

i am now very very confused

had porridge yesterday and this morning , made the same way, same measure, made with water added blueberries...2 hours after yesterdays reading..was 7.3

this mornings was 9.2!!!!!!!!!!! :|

this happens a few times with me...same time of day ..same food made same way,and then i get different reading?? how can i sort myself out when this happens?

sorry for moaning, but this bit really gets to me, i try my best but get different results,

my reading yesterday was all good all below 8.5 and i actually thought i was getting to grips with it,
i feel a bit off again today not sure why, whether that effects it i'm not sure,
all i know is since being told i have diabetes, i changed my diet completely, and felt rubbish ever since...how can i beat this...pleeeeeaaaaseeeeeee tell me :( i know i have been posting a lot, but i dont anyone else with diabetes..sorry xx

Roxy,

Not a type 2 but the different post readings would depend on your level before breakfast, try a reduced portion tomorrow (less oats) to see if this helps.

Hiya roxy. KNOW exactly what you mean ! I eat exactly same variety meals [small snack sized portions]all handmade n homecooked, tested them all in past n they read low, then eat same again n they read high!!! It is totally brain battering especially when you make such an effort to try n do the right things. Trying to gain control n then BS high readings blow it all up n I dont know how or why it's happening. Have been told I am insulin deficient so whether that has something to do with it ??? your not moaning at all, only other diabetics I can talk to n with is on here!!! only others I meet is when go to clinic n hospital. This is a problem with food values. 2 oats, 2 tomatoes - 2 anything - may look identical but don't necessarily have the same calorie, carb etc., content. The oats could be from different sources and have different values - and so can the blueberries.

I've been amazed on reading round this subject on just how different 2 - lets say apples - can differ on the value scale. Early season ones are lower in calorie than high season ones (less sun I suppose to turn the flesh sugary).

Weird stuff - I got some information from (link removed- Google for information) second-opinions. and from other forums on the net.

Cheers

You will never get the same reading just because you have the same food. Everybodys Bg levels fluctuate second by second, minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day. What you eat will affect those readings but so does many other things, stress, heat, hormones, exercise etc. A fact of life.

If you check before a meal and it is high then it is going to be even higher 2 hrs after a meal.

Worrying about why its high or different will just make it worse !

thanx nigel, the moning reading was the same , 6.1

Thanks roxy! I take it you weighed both portions? if so then reduce the portion size of oats or try something completely different, although porridge is a healthy low-gi food it is not always suitable to everyone with diabetes.

This is The Cummulative Carb Effect in action!

You should perhaps mention that this 'Cummulative Carb Effect' is just one of your theories Patch, as a statement like that could be taken as fact.

So could suggesting people should attempt to lose weight through dieting.

Hi Roxy not only does it taste like wallpaper paste but it has quite a lot of sugar and the total carb content per serving is quite high.

There is a lot of discussion about ways of making porridge around the site and how people make it less likley to spike their BG - if you want porridge have use the search facility.

In my view wallpaper paste is exactly what poridge should be used for

I have eggs instead..
