Sandals.....

Probably a contentious issue, but here goes.....

We need to protect our feet, so, socks with sandals? It may not be the fashionable thing, but I'm comfortable and that's more important!
There, I've said it!

Malc.

Don't worry about what's fashionable and wear what you find comfortable, wearing socks will help stop the straps rubbing against your skin.

Just recently had a big toe amputated, and have got back into real shoes again, rather than the dreaded hospital slipper with velcro, but have found my feet and ankles swelling in the heat, making my shoes too tight. So, have purchased sandals, (can't wear flip-flops any more) and am enjoying the fresh air round my feet. No socks, just being careful where I am walking, avoiding rough ground etc. While out shopping yesterday, and queueing to pay, a child was looking quizzically at my foot, and said to her mother "that lady has lost her toe, shall I help her look for it?" Bless  Didn't want to scare her, by explaining, so I said that would be very nice, and she peered around looking while I explained to her mother. We decided it would be best to say I remembered now leaving it at home, silly me! I imagine Mum had fun later answering questions as to how I could take it off!

Socks with sandals, a big yes. Socks with flip-flops, another big yes. People should wear what they **** well please.
I agree, people should wear what makes them comfortable... :)

Many thanks for all your interesting replies, both for and against....
Although, to be honest, my main point of posing the question on this forum was to state that IMO using sandals without 'protecting the feet from the effects of the sun,or possibly blisters', could be a risk to someone with diabetes. :?

Kind regards,
Malc.
I'm sure most of the replies were a bit tongue in cheek. I am not a fan of the socks/sandals combo but wouldn't actually try to force my opinion on anyone. We are not the sock police. Or the sandal police either for that matter:smile::smile: Well wear my friend

I don't think anyone here is trying to force their opinion on any one else. Of course people can - and do, wear exactly what they want.

The responses on this thread may not have addressed the deeper question behind the OP, but they were fun and light hearted.

They aren't anymore.

Oh well.

Malc, the OP, never actually asked a question. He just said he wore sandals with socks so I'm sure no harm done. Life is too short not to have a little fun. Diabetes, blood levels, retinopathy, amputation etc gets a little tiresome all the time ! :D

socks and sandals is a bit like Marmite, or red sauce/brown sauce, so which do you prefer? Quick subject change! haha

Brown sauce every-time on a bacon buttie

But salad cream or mayo on egg sandwich? I'm a salad cream girl. Mind you I like horseradish sauce on beetroot sarnies, so like the sandals/socks each to their own (though I do tell hubby off when he wears socks and sandals, but not seriously - he wouldn't take any notice anyway ha)

OR just mix HP sauce with tomato ketchup in equal parts and make a BBQ sauce...IT WORKS!! :D *

* not sure what this has to do with sandals but I wouldn't wear 'em myself

See I'm Mayo and it has to be Hellman's. I love Horseradish sauce but never tried it on Beetroot, I like cheese and beetroot sandwiches with loads of black pepper on.......with Hellman's Mayo of course

Have you heard of that race they run in Death Valley every year? I think it's called the Darth Valley race? Or something like that? - it's a mile long sprint........ dressed up as Darth Vadar!! The temperature at this years race was apparently 121 degrees!!! - I'm very carefully not mentioning it to my Ironman brother, in case he gets any ideas!

Now that sounds interesting!

Have you heard of Badwater? A 100 mile race that goes through death valley. You need to run on the white lines to stop your soles melting (maybe your soul as well)

and PS - it's HP all the way. And dijon grain mustard on ham.

Talking about Crocs. I went on a cruise with a friend and her ankles really swelled up. On a formal night she turned up for dinner in all her formal attire finished off with a bright pink pair of Crocs. They were the only things she could get on her feet !!

does anyone know why HP sauce is so called? (me, me, me!) :?:

My 9 year-old daughter says it stands for Horrible Poo sauce.

But then she like ketchup

Houses of Parliament, that's why they have a picture of it on the bottles :)

Hi again,
Many thanks for your replies and may I add that I'm certainly not offended by the 'light-hearted' posts on this thread, I welcome other peoples' opinions, providing they are good-natured... So, no problems there...

My reasons for emphasizing the 'foot care /protection ' aspect, was only to validate my post (about sandals) being placed in the 'Diabetes Discussions' section on this forum.

So, hopefully, no harm done?

BTW, I thought that brown sauce & tomato ketchup contained far more sugar than we, on this forum, should be consuming?
I'll get my coat....

Regards, Malc.
