Hi Guys,

I'm after some advise, I've recently started having scatic pain - Mainly refered pain in my knee, but also my bum cheek. If find I'm not sitting squarely to try and compensate and I'm sure that this isn't the right thing to do. My question to you all is Physio, Osteopathy or Chiropracty, which do you find to have the best effect (or something else I'm open to suggestions)

You need to go and see a back specialist because you can not play guessing games with your spine as you never know whats going on near the spinal cord so please be careful .

It's not all the time, and I've got exercises to do which keep it manageable most of the time. The annoying thing us it plays up most when I wear flat shoes. 4 inch heels-no problems no pain, walking shoes 10 minutes and every step is agony!

I agree with twink the reasons for the cause of sciatica are varied from a slipped disk to arthritis and if you go to an Osteopath or Chiropractor they could end up doing serious permanent damage as happened to me when I went to an osteopath for back pain many years ago before being diagnosed with spondilitis of the spine, the osteopath cracked my back regularly over a 4 or 5 week period and made matters considerably worse, I now have damaged nerves in my lower back that causes me continuous pain down my right leg for which I have to take extremely strong pain killers.

So be very very careful and get a proper diagnoses with xrays and mri/cat scans that will show exactly what is causing the problem and only then make the decision which treatment route to take.

A mate of mine swore by physiotherapy when he had a slipped disk but when I had a 6 month course of physio it just made my pain worse.

You only have one spine, look after it.
