Hi all, I have just been diagnosed with type 1, I have got over the initial shock associated with it but was wondering if anyone knew what the deal is with driving a minibus with passengers. I have filled out the DVLA form but can't get a straight answer off the website.

Can anyone help?

Best leave it to DVLA - for instance they gave me a 3 year licence for cars and removed all"heavy" vehicles. Others have lost their, licence entirely. No rhyme or reason that I can see so best leave it to them I reckon.

If you've informed DVLA and they have not told you to stop driving and you've completed all paperwork then I would think you're fine. You must test prior to driving and every 2 hours. Your employer will probably need to know too, unless you're self employed. Also, inform your insurer.

Took mine ages but that was for LGV. A lot depends on how quick they get the info they need. They will write to your specialist and that can take time. Are you on insulin now ?

Well, there's no set time I'm afraid. You just have to jump through the DVLA hoops ! Frustrating but no real way to speed things up.Just get the paperwork sent off ASAP and keep fingers crossed.

It took 4weeks to get DVLA response, but it all does depend on how fast your medical team respond to DVLA enquiries.
