Seeing the endocrinologist

Hi all,

Diagnosed 3 and a half weeks ago GP has now sent me to see the endocrinologist. Is this normal? what should I expect?

Still just seems so much to take in

welcome, there is a lot to take in, but you don't need to know it all in the first month. getting checked by an endo is a good idea.
 
There could be several reasons. It could be that your surgery can't provide diabetes support and therefore has referred you to the local clinic. It could be that the GP isn't sure whether you are T2 or T1 and is therefore seeking clarification. I wouldn't worry and you are likely to have good support from the endo. Were you told whether you are T2 or T1? How old are you and are you normal weight?
 
T1's 30 years ago had stays at least 4 days in hospital.. So being referred to an endo isn't too much of a big deal.. Are you diagnosed type 1 or 2?

I was diagnosed type 2, then had Ketones so potentially t1, was back at my GP last week who upped meds metformin and glicazide. She tested for ketones, none present, she concluded this was now t2 (I'm 37 and very overweight). Then received a letter to endocrinologist this week - given the speed only been diagnosed 3 weeks - surprised given it an NHS appt

My gp has already referred me for blood tests next week to test Hba1c level and an apt to see diabetic nurse

Just so much to get to grips with I know it will take time
 
Hi. If you can get the weight down thru low-carbing it makes it much easier to confirm any diagnosis and in itself helps treat the blood sugar. Let us know how you get on
