Had a blood H1C come back as 9.2 in 2014, now checking daily with meter I'm down to 5.8, is this a good level I have read all sort of different opinions.

Blood sugar at wake up always between 6.3 and 6.8 day in day out, read that this could be down to the morning effect?

Always high after morning coffee 6.3 to 7.8

Any thoughts would help

Hi and welcome to the forum. To help members help you could you let us know a typical days food and drinks and if you are on any medication. Also can you be a bit more specific on the timings of your readings, for instance how long after your morning coffee are you testing at 6.3 - 7.8?

The readings on the meter depend what they are reading in as hba1c is a different to the meter usually

there is a calculator that may help but remember meter readings have margin of error of 15% and I have seen people on here who took their average and were disappointed with their hba1c

5.8 mmol/L is good though, about 5.3% in “old money”
6.8 is still not so bad but could be better perhaps

Yes sorry Hi to all bty!

Coffe wise, about two hrs after, some days, if stressed it can be 7.8 if not and 2.5 to 3hrs after 5.9 to 6.5 varys

No meds, most meals now if careful with foods I choose I can be 6.4 to 7.4 after, if I have tuna omelet for lunch two hrs after can be about 5.4

Any help is appreciated, as I have said according to my tester (Accu check mobile) my H1C is stable at 5.8, so im not sure if i am diabetic or not, I hate Doctors and wont be going back to them hence the input needed here

Thanks Again to all

The standard testing regime that most type 2s stick to here, is to test at first bite of a meal and then two hours later. You’re looking at having a rise of no more than 2 mmol/l. So if your 7.4 is 2 hours after a meal but your pre meal reading was say 5.0 then the rise is too much and your meal needs to be altered.
In answer to your other question, if your HbA1c was 9.2% in 2014, you have done a good job dropping it to 5.8, however are you are you sure your 5.8 on your meter is an estimated HaA1c as a percentage, and not an average of your finger prick tests, I’m not familiar with your meter.
My HbA1c has been at non diabetic levels for over 3 years yet I am still diabetic. I continue to eat no more than 45g carbs per day to keep my blood sugars under control.

Thanks for the info, its an app I use its HbA1c 5.8 %

I agree with @Rachox my blood sugars have been in the normal range since less than 3 months after my diagnosis (thanks to this site) but I am still a diabetic. I have an intolerance to carbs no matter how much I like them. I know I will have to restrict my carbs forever to keep my blood sugars under control. Just like someone is allergic to nits for example- avoiding them keeps them asymptomatic but still allergic.

Great work reducing your HbA1c- keep it up
