Can anyone tell me if it is possible for a man to have a normal sexual relationship after not being able to achieve an erection for approx 5 years and has type 2 diabetes for about same time?

If all know methods have been explored and five years have elapsed, I would expect atrophy would have set in and the answer could possibly be no. Five years is a long time to lapse without a single erection or even a partial, so maybe implants are the route to follow; but I'm not an expert (except on my own cured problem now) so you should really seek medical intervention to find out what has gone wrong in your particular case if not already done so.

Hi there. You don,t say much in the way of detail about your difficuties. Have you just sought medical help or have you had help over the past few years? Do you have a supportive partner or are you alone? Diabetes does of course play a massive part in impotence, (in my opinion it's one of the worst complications for us guys), but many other factors can play their part as well. Not prying, just have experience and understanding of your condition.

I was prescribed viagra a couple of years ago with no success and have just been given a prescription for Alprostadil,(not tried yet). I had a long term partner that i had a son with over 20 years ago, until about a year ago who just thought i was seeing someone else, no one since. I find that people either dont understand or dont believe you.

I recall watching something on the BBC breakfast news a few weeks ago which basically said that often the root cause of these problems stems from a man's testosterone level. If your level is low then viagra and these other pills wont help you. Your GP should refer you to an erectile disfunction specialist at your local hospital to explore what your problems are and then look at alternative solutions.

I've just googled it, here is the link:

I hope this helps you and good luck with your treatment.

Hi, I have just turned 45 so statistically this will also be my problem before long, hence my interest in it!

Now, a slightly older friend of mine (who is not diabetic) has been suffering from this for a while & it put extreame preassure on his marriage. Viagra was no significant help to him, but his Doctor recently put him on a drug called Levitron (sorry spelling may be wrong).

He claims that it has worked wonders for him, and he is almost back to his old self. Maybe you could have a conversation with your Doctor & see what other medications are available for you, as Viagra appears not to be the cure-all for everyone.

Best of luck!

I would strongly recommend Cialis rather than Viagra.
The advantage is that it goes on working for two or more days.
In fact, the French call it "le week-end."
The 20 mg strength works a treat in most cases...
Your doctor should be able to prescribe it without any problem.

If the suggestions here and your own Gp's advice are not working you really need to see a Consultant Urologist who specialises in such problems.

The usual treatments do not always work very well for some....it can also be down to Psychological reasons as opposed to physical.

It really needs further investigation.

Hi,
I've been using the Alprostadil injections for some time now. Here's a link to another page on this forum which you might find useful to read. My own experiences of the treatment are on the 4th page of the thread:

Hope this is helpful.
