Shocked!

Other than cholesterol, your results are brilliant and you should be very proud of yourself. :)

If it helps, I agree with your plan to stay away from the statins until your next test and see what happens. Good for you for sticking with it.

I was one of the lucky ones that saw improved lipid panels test after test. My weight loss never affected it, nor has my consumption of saturated fats, for which I will be eternally grateful. Cutting the carbs and eating mounds of oily fish probably helped me, or maybe I just have good genes in that respect.

Good luck for your next test - and make sure you fast for it even if they say it isn't necessary.

If you'd like some more information on this read Dr Malcolm Kendrick's book The Great Cholesterol Con. It's very good and very clearly set out and has the benefit of Dr Kendrick sounding very sane indeed.

Hi NurseDee

Please please stick with your LCHF diet. Others may disagree, but I think a slightly "high" cholesterol is actually good for you.

I was inspired by reading "The great cholesterol con" by Malcolm Kendrick, a UK GP. He provides overwhelming evidence that cholesterol has very little to do with heart disease or health in general, ideas about HDL/LDL are mainly nonsense, but a high cholesterol may protect against Eg cancer and mental health issues. I would say you are exactly where you need to be with all your results..............keep up the good work!

Dillinger that is the most fabulous snippet I think I've seen, under 2 minutes long. That is so easy to show anyone - even within a 10 minute appointment, there's time to show that to the HCP. The various Sikaris et al clips have to be HCP homework, usually.

Thanks again.

Sorry, didn't see dillinger's post...............more informative than mine, but we are of the same mind. Very helpful video.

Hi Nurse Dee,
My total cholesterol is similat to yours. But my trigs are 1.0 and my HDL is 1.6 so it is unlikely I have much very dense LDL.
However, if your medics want you on statins with you low HDL and rather high trigs I would certainly consider it.
You could take coenzyme Q10 to mitigate the effects of the statin and take a different statin to Atorvastatin which has a reputation for making T2D worse. I think in this situation I would follow the health care professionals advice since your case is not straightforward but we each have to make up our minds with our doctors because medical care is a partnership job nowadays.
Low Carb High Fat should bring your trigs down and HDL up..a statin should reduce your LDL. but statins cause other problems which they have caused me in combination with other drugs not for T2D.

Best wishes
Derek
