Bad manners, bad drivers, being diabetic, not being thin.
Hi, Just wondering if anyone else has or had any weight gain when going onto Sitagliptin.
My doctor put me onto Glicalzide then changed it to Sitagliptin after one month so that I could loose some weight, saying that it would be easier on this than Gliclazide. I have managed on Metformin for the last couple of years. (2 x 1000 mg) I have arthritis in most of my joints including my spine which helps to wear me out and since also getting Labrynthitis two years ago I have never really felt well with on-going dizzy spells, head and ear pain and anxiety and panic attacks which were brought on by this. I don't sleep very well but this isn't something that has just started to be a problem my lack of sleep has been going on for a few years. I have a constant battle with my weight at the best of times but since going on Sitagliptin a couple of months ago I have put on 10 lbs. I exercise as much as I can. I have gone back to Aqua Aerobics as this burns calouries and does not give me any pain, had to stop Zumba Gold along with the gym last year because the pain became unbearable in my back. I also use the exercise suite at the sports centre which is very good and does not give me any joint pain if I take care. So I do some sort of exercise every week i.e. two Aqua classes and visit the exercise suite a couple of days a week. I have not changed my eating habits over the last few months either so can only think it is down to the Sitagliptin. OR IS IT !!! I was really depressed this morning when I got on the scales and had put another couple of pounds on in the last few days. especially as I had really worked hard in Aqua yesterday.
Any thoughts much appreciated

Hello colcot, I have been on Sitagliptin and never really felt comforable with it, so away it went, I now have Gliclazide at 2 x 2 daily as well as 2 x 2 of metformin daily. I have now been put on Victoza a new injectable drug for T2, which is given once a day, and is also shown to give help with weight problems, this treatment might be of help to you, ask you diabetic nurse or gp to refer you to a specialist and discuss the option with them. Maybe get refered to a diabetic specialist nurse, who will also help you, and even a diabetic dietician to help as well. I am also trying to shed weight as I will be having knee replacements sometime soon, and the ortho pods need my weight down, but I am struggling to get it to keep it going down the scale, I hope you achieve better results, well let us know how things go, ttfn

@scouser ,

Now, failing to have confidence with my specialist (sent me to Endocrinologist for kidney CKD Stage 3 only now having him tell me I do not have CKD but heart failure) I am considering self-medication (you can here in Indo) using Metformin with (possibly) Gliclazide.

Have been on Metformin 500 x twice daily for over 8 years but am unable to bring my levels down, especially after eating. I see you have followed a similar path and would like to ask whether you had any noticeable change in control after going onto Gliclazide. Also, what mg were you on for both at that time please? I am aware that you had a weight problem but Gliclazide is very often prescribed in conjunction with Metformin especially when Metformin becomes less effective.

Thanking you in anticipation,

Rob
