Hi

I've decided to check out my actual sleep quality using a phone app for a bit to see what the results say. I started last night and this is the result I got in the pic below. My GP thinks I don't sleep too well and for quite some time my longest time asleep without waking is probably 3 hours. Even when I have a nap at home I get up a few times. My doc thinks I need to be sleeping properly and I'm not and he is of the opinion a lot of my health issues aren't too good because I lack sleep. I'm exhausted all the time anyhow. I'm on a few meds that would knock a healthy person out flat, but it doesn't do that for me because of symptoms. Last night it was my **** bladder spasming as I have a UTI on top of the bladder condition I've got. But then also I know this probably impacts my sugar levels too.

Just out of interest do any of you use sleep cycle apps? Do you find them useful?

RE: pic... those spikes in direction of 'awake' I remember being up out of bed a few times last night.

This might be a long shot but do you snore? My OH snored something terrible so much that I slept in the other room. His sleep was broken many times every night because he would wake himself up and then have to get up to wee. I suggested that he tried a nasal douche because his nose was permanently blocked and it worked, peaceful long sleep for him and me, sharing the same bed again and he repeats the douche when required. Just an idea for you.

That's good your OH is noticing a difference. Yes, the neti-pot is great for cleaning the sinuses. I use it myself.

Yes I snore, but I've only snored since my throat has not been working which is the past 4 years. My throat closes a lot during the day and no doubt it does the same at night. I don't wake because of snoring usually, I wake because of other symptoms I'm dealing with. Occasionally I wake because I'm choking when I have congestion. I wish it was just something easily fixed such as using the neti-pot to clear my sinuses, but it isn't that most of the time for me.

I'm just checking just how much sleep I'm actually getting or not getting. I already sleep with my bed raised and a wedge pillow, plus a normal pillow on top... so I'm the highest I can go for my reflux problem. I chronically burp too and this happens day and night. My oesophagus traps air constantly and docs haven't figured out how to fix that. But the more air it traps the more painful it is and it can trigger spasms, burping, hiccups. Well you get the idea... I've got a lot going on that interrupts my sleep. .. including the occasional hypo.

My sleep is bad getting around 4 hours night and have always been like it. My gp said that can affect my fasting levels in the morning

I tend to sleep for about 4 hours a night as well.
I have done for years.

At least I can do more in the day!

Have you had a sleep study done? If your throat is closing, you may have sleep apnea - and might benefit from a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine. My daughter has chronic fatigue from a disease that affects her liver. She also has very mild sleep apnea - and actually had to convince her mind to keep her on her back during the second overnight study since she is below the cutoff for diagnosis when she sleeps on her side (the first study - which was too low to permit her to get a prescription for a CPAP machine). While her level of sleep apnea might not bother someone without a chronic fatigue problem, using a CPAP machine has made a tremendous difference for her.

Hi Mep, I don't have the app. tbh I don't sleep, I am tired when I go to bed, but I have never been a good sleeper. Also as we age, we need less sleep too! I am up and active and busy in the mornings, I work, I don't drive, so out in the fresh air a lot, come the afternoon and early evening I am exhausted, so tired. But it's something that just gets put up with. I would love my head to rest on my pillow and gently fall asleep, then wake up after 4, 5, or 6 hours of undisturbed sleep. That, would be bliss and sounds like what heaven must be like :joyful::)

No, I've not had a sleep study done. I do know I snore though.

In regard to my throat, I already know why it closes over. I have reflux laryngitis and muscle tension dysphonia. My muscles in my throat don't move very well at all.

I'm glad your daughter got an answer and some help with her sleep apnea. I'm not sure if I could even use a CPAP as I already have a bad problem with air build up in my oesophagus... I'd imagine the CPAP would make that worse for me. :(

It wouldn't hurt to check with your doctor. You may well be right - that it may be incompatible with your condition. But it can't hurt to ask your care provider (and you might be pleasantly surprised). For individuals whose sleep is impaired by sleep apnea, it often makes a tremendous difference!
