I must admit I was pretty peckish by 11 despite eating at 8. Blood sugar was high but I'm going to put that down to hypo rebound from yesterday.

So then... Antonio Carluccio wept tears of blood and slowly rotated in his grave, as I opened the packet of Slim and Save "Pasta Carbonara". This was a foil packet rather than a paper packet, so I had to harness all my reserves of culinary skill to open it. Disaster averted!

Calories 145 kcal
Protein 12.5 g
Carbohydrates 15.4 g
Fat 3.1 g

During second stage nuking the contents of the bowl exploded, splattering hot cheezy residue all over the microwave. This was quite convenient, as the instructions say to let it stand for 2-3 minutes, allowing me time to mop up the mess and wipe up the inside of the microwave and the outside of the bowl. It did raise the question of whether I should reduce my insulin dose in line with the amount of splatter. Luckily I have completed a course called DAFNE (Dose Adjustment For Nuclear Explosions).

I would describe the taste and texture as "lumpy cheese-and-bacon flavour Ready Brek". For some reason they are going to discontinue this one. I can't think why...

Argh. Now this is the hard part. 15gch hits my system and triggers the carb cravings. I just have to push through it.
This is where a high fat coffee would come in handy.

An interesting thought. Since I've been T1 diabetic for 20 years, and therefore I have the insulin producing capacity of a fencepost, where are the carb cravings coming from? Certainly not from an insulin spike or a blood sugar drop, which is the orthodox explanation. This tells me that what is being triggered is opioid receptors. The first little hit of carbs isn't enough - like a smackhead I want to shuffle down to the local red light district and sell my body for a bigger fix. I'm Jonesing bad.

That is definitely NOT a box of 15 milk chocolate honey-nougat bars sitting in the corner. Definitely not. Definitely not, and I need to get that box out of here and gone. Where are the Romanian orphans when you need them, hmm?

I think I'm going to have to add fat to this Slim and Save diet if it's going to work as LCHF.
I'm drinking a basic butter coffee now. Not bad for a slab of butter stirred vigorously into a hot Nescafe.

Last year I tried the Montignac Low Carb diet - it's low fat, too and after a month I was dreaming of fat and ended up eating slices of butter out of the packet. LCHF is entirely do-able for me, but after a lovely early weight drop I've plateaued and am stuck.
A friend who's doing Save and Slim is now sylph like and giving me all the clothes that are too big for her, so I can see it works and I like the idea of not having to think about every blinkin meal, but I can't seem to manage on low fat.

****. Hungry and craving. Gave in to a Honey, Nougat and Cardboard (tm) bar.

Calories (Kcal) 180
Protein (g) 12.6
Carbohydrates (g) 17.0
of which cardboard (g) 14.5
Fat (g)
6.8

On the plus side, it's got a lot more fat in it!
Hmm time for another butter coffee.

Spikey Babe,

I'm getting concerned.
This is not how life should be.
I could send care packages. with the odd wee red rose tucked inside... and my batcave is better than @Heathenlass and @Totto's batcave.
I have a coffee machine.
and one of those round beds from Ikea nestled amongst the stalagmites

Isnt opening a pack of cheese even less challenging to your manly physique and culinary prowess than opening a foil sachet?
And the coffee, better than a shake?

I had a friend on the... the... drat, I have forgotten the name of the diet. Encore? E something.
She fobbed some sachets off on me, when she got tired of the flavours. I liked the mint choc one, and the toffee nut. and there was one strawberry, but the others were soups, and they still give me nightmares.

And even though they are only 15 g carbs per sachet, it is like mainlining 15g glucose.

Would it help to stir in some psyllium husks to slow the release?
And cream.
Never forget the cream!
cos those carb cravings won't go away otherwise...

(Brunneria has obviously never seen me attempting to open a pack of cheese... think Marx Brothers.)

Very early dinner of "Spicy Spaghetti with Red and Green Chilli's". I found the excess apostrophe particularly hard to swallow.

13gch, 13 gpr, 4gf, 143 kcal

Basically this is just like my first and second attempts at low carb - I am ravenously hungry all the time. It's far far worse that just my normal (bad) eating. So probably the reason is the same - not enough fat in the diet. Slim and Save looks to be low in fat.

Spiker, I still have a lot of refining to do on my LCHF diet and am also fighting cravings throughout the day. It's really miserable. And I'm grumpy.

I'm now adding 1 oz nuts or 1/2 an avocado to meals that I don't think will sustain me for 4 hours OR between lunch and dinner or 2 hours after dinner.

A boiled egg likely would work too. My husband boils 4 at a time and stores them in the fridge for convenience.

Another "survival food" is 1/3 red pepper and 1/3 green pepper sliced, eaten with 1 to 2 tablespoons FAGE 2% unsweetened yogurt.

Something else that's fast and easy to add to those packet meals is commercially pre-washed leafy greens with a few sliced mushrooms (which I find filling) and a vinaigrette (2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar combined in lidded jar and shaken). Again, easy.

All of these foods will hopefully add the fat that you're likely missing.

Enjoying the humor here a lot. :)

I refuse to be drawn into whose batcave is nicest. It would be ungentlemanly. I am sure all of you ladies have exceedingly attractive batcaves.

Actually your batcave is sounding like a top destination...

Exante. Execrable.

I'm ALL about the cream, baby. :-D

@Heathenlass.... That mead isn't very low carb... ;) :hungry:

Tim, one good quaff, and you don't give a ****** anymore - two, you are incapable of eating anything for quite a while. Any more than two mead horns full you are invincible , roar a lot and are witty to the point of pain ( or so you think, but do you care? )

Post quaffing, even the thought of food nauseates you for 48 hours, so it all pans out in the end ;)

Signy

Ps. For the uninitiated , " quaffing " is very similar to drinking, but involves missing the mouth a lot. And singing. Badly .

Low carb without fat is starvation. You actually know this. You have been there before. What you are trying to do is dieting and did that ever work?

It has been know at some point but it's rare.

lcHF, on the other hand has worked and you know this.

Apart from the cave Signy and me run I also have a farm where people come during the summer to work, eat, swim, cook, work, explore, go for walks, meet people from other parts of the world and generally have a good time. I'd love to have you here and teach you a bit about cooking. We do get very hungry indeed but the solution is eating vast amounts of low carb food.

Tomorrow is another day, and I will be generously ladling-on the fat. In fact I will start this evening.
