Hi, a friend of mine brought this product into me. It's called Slim Rice & she bought it in a health food shop. It's pricey at €2.50 a packet & 1 packet is only 200gs, but was wondering what people thought. Is it too good to be true? It also comes in a noodle...

How did it taste? Was it real rice that they have somehow altered to take the CHO out or was it some kind of man made substitute?

Well I just had a spoonful of my friends lunch, no taste at all. Strange texture though. Like wet rubber pieces. Chewing was a job as the pieces slipped around the mouth... Apparently the noodles taste better!

I use the Slim Rice and Noodles alot, they are made from a japanese plant. They have no taste themselves but do absorb any sauce that they are put in, so best to soak in a sauce before eating. I use them in curries and stir fries. I buy them form Holland and Barret's or Amazon, Deb

There was another post recently about the zero noodles. They're good, but tasteless. Good with spag bol, thai soup, stir fry. The rice is good with curry.

I gave these a try. The final decision for me was Noodles=good, but the rice was more like chopped up noodles than rice. If you like soft white rice, then it will probably work out for you. But I like brown rice, and it's nothing like it.

On the noodles though; the slim ones and zero ones even got the thumbs up from my other half, who is a fussy pasta lover. So, I'd recommend the noodles as a pasta replacement.

I'm a boring veggie who likes cheesy rice (cheese, onions, celery and brown rice). So for that kind of thing, the best replacement I've found is the grated cauliflower in a microwave. It has the right texture of rice. It all depends on how you like your rice, I reckon :)

Quinoa is great! Smells a bit strange while it's cooking but once it's done, it's lovely.

I cook quinoa in a veg stock, get some flavour then. I've tried the slim pasta, did it as a bake with mozzarella and parmesan, very nice. I bought them online at Holland & Barrett free postage and 2 for 1 so bargain.

I just eat less rice, works perfectly and tastes just like rice, well it would do as it is :D

Seriously I used to eat a take away sized portion of rice with a curry or any meal that I eat rice with, you know, covering the plate, now I just eat two spoonfuls of rice with a meal, so I still eat rice but the amount doesnt send my bg levels into orbit.

Simply test to find out what size portions you can safely eat.

I only eat Basmati rice and as I have posted numerous times it is much harder for the human body to digest which means it has a very low GI.

Surely the whole point of testing is to find out what you can eat not what you cant.

Wise words Mr Bonkers ! Smaller servings of the good stuff and test to see what it does to your levels.

I didn't like the texture of quinoa. To me it was like eating sand. I'm fine with noodles but have to watch the size of a portion of rice. It sends my BS sky high. I'm fine with a tablespoon of mashed potato as well (but no more than that !!)
