You know, I have often wondered if, after several years, despite people doing their very best, some type 2 diabetics lose some of their insulin production?
Thank you for all the comments. They are helpful for my analysis on this topic.
Hi,
Why did you ask....
(If I remember, your father is diabetic.)
Are you or you father under discussion regarding prescription of this treatment?
Asking for my uncle who was diagnosed a month ago. I am now helping him.
My father has passed away last year due to a haemorrhagic stroke. That was why I was absent from posting in this forum from that time till recently.

Just my thoughts, but I do think there are different sub-types of type 2 diabetes, with different causes, reactions to carb levels and who need different treatment pathways.
We are all different, even under the heading of type 2. In my opinion.

My condolences for your father.
It a disappointing that more T2s using a basal regime haven't participated in regards to the perspective on how they fare..
I know as a T1, I couldn't manage souly on basal alone. Even as a low carber..there are quite often corrections needed for liver dumps & i don't even do breakfast?
I did a quick google on the statistics of T2s using Exogenous insulin. Not a lot to go on.. Somewhere did mention around 30%???
On a randomness browser search. But I couldn't testiment to how accurate that actually is..

I have been told that 30% of type 2 diabetics eventually use insulin as a treatment. Permenantly.Do you mean 2 out of 3, type 2 that use insulin quit after a while?
What I read was what @lucylocket61 kinda said, only the actual figure looked like "30%?"Do you mean 2 out of 3, type 2 that use insulin quit after a while?

Unfortunately you misunderstood. I mean within 10 years. Almost all the type 2 diabetics I know are on insulin. As someone who has ME, I don't exercise. It's all about the carbs.I think this is good news. Reason is because it is hard for one to have the discipline to limit carb intake (balance with physical activity) to a level for healthy blood glucose range. This is to say most diabetic type 2 patients do not control their blood glucose level well. In the end only 30% eventually went on to use exogenous insulin treatment, it says a lot on how resistant our body is to the repeated and prolonged blood glucose abuse.
If one is to use proper low carb diet and exercise routine to intervene, the chances of a full and long term remission is very high.
That may well be true historically but then that was the about the only treatment, there are now many types of medication that can be tried before Insulin and so it may never be needed. I am hopeful that diet may be enough for me in the long term but at 74 the long term is not so far away as for some.I have been told that 30% of type 2 diabetics eventually use insulin as a treatment. I don't consider the carb control issues some may have, to be a lack of self discipline. I consider it to be a lack of information and support from the medical people. I have had to go it alone, in the face of hostility from my DN, despite the evidence of my figures, for nearly 10 years now. It is scandalous.
Most diabetes T2 probably mess up their BG, so it is no surprise.
Yeah, let's continue to blame the diabetics........(sarcasm)Most diabetes T2 probably mess up their BG, so it is no surprise.
