Hi (again) Jerky is meat, meat tends to be good, the trick is to test your bg before and after the snack, this pretty much applies to everything, if you can find a South African biltong shop locally, they do really nice Cured meat, perfect for snacks. Peperami is a recent discovery (for me) I never fancied it until I tried it.

4.7 per 24g is a little bit high though- if you work out how much that is per 100g, it won't be ideal for low-carb. That said, if you're not eating much, it's a really nice snack, and better than a lot of the other stuff you could get. I like that kind of jerky myself, but I'm just saying it's not as low-carb as you might expect from a meat product

Thanks Geordie_P, I could munch 4 packets...but they're too chewy for that...the protein is 10g for 24g according to the label which seemed quite good for a snack...but now i find even digesting proteins needs insulin, but after carbs ... (according to google links), it seems to be second in the order of digestion or thats the ordinary peops info so all the food types need checking.:)

That seems to very much depend on the person. From what I’ve read around the forum it seems to be far more of an issue for some of those using exogenous insulin - it’s not clear from your profile whether you take any meds for your diabetes.

As a diet controlled type 2 eating a very low carbohydrate diet, large quantities of protein don’t raise my blood sugars at all.

Like @Goonergl, as an LCHF diet controlled T2, I've never had any issues with protein , it's just an excess of carbs/starch/sugars that clobber my glucose levels. But it does appear from what some T1/insulin using members have said that protein affects them.

And @Dily, I look at both the number of carbs per 100g and the actual number in any smaller portion size that I might choose to eat. It's essentially the number of carbs that are actually consumed that are important. If you have a meter, testing blood before and (2 hours) after eating will tell you what affect that has on your glucose level.

If you e plain dark chocolate, then the higher (75% plus) content bars are not only Ok but are good for you too...:hungry:

Beef jerky is incredibly high in sodium which is particularly a problem if you have high blood pressure. The holy grail is a high protein, low sugar, low sodium snack. Natural peanut butter with celery sticks is one option.

@Dily if you like Chorizo Snaffling Pig do small bags of Chorizo bites which are convenient as they don’t need to be kept in the fridge. I also have small bags of nuts and snack size pepperoni sticks on hand as well. These are all low carb.
