Crunchy nut cornflakes were sending my blood sugars into the early 20s. Thought right I'll get some plain cereal. Rice crispies I thought. Decent bowl of them this morning with semi skimmed milk and a spoonful of sweetener.........16.4!!! What? Is there any cereal I can eat that not going to send my BMs off the chart? Please don't say all bran........id rather eat cardboard.

cereal does require a bit of thinking .......have you looked at adjusting the timing of your dose ??
IE -- moving it further back from actual eating -- this can help reduce spike.

I tend to eat eggs for breakfast -- sometimes with toast -- sometimes scrambled with ham and cheese

As @himtoo advised inject well in advance. Thats the only way to reduce the spike.
You can also try to add some fat, maybe full fat milk or some cream or peanut butter

30g granola 60g Greek yogurt. Comes in about 25g carbs and doesn't spike me. It's not my everyday breakfast but maybe once a week for variety.

All this talk about food may have to have an extra biscuit before bed ? Then again maybe not shame lol

If you get you insulin dose and timing right I don't see why you can't eat cornflakes. You need to know what insulin to carb ratio you need in the morning (make sure to weigh out you cereal and the milk so you know exactly how many carbs you are dealing with) and how long after injecting it takes for your insulin to start working. If you know dosage and timing and cereal still doesn't work for you then it might be time to bin them, but working the dosage and timing out should help.

:D...................it a while since I've eaten all=bran but I don't mind it.

Agreed on the bolus timing to reduce the postprandial spike, when in range most of us bolus at least 20mins before eating to give the insulin a change to work before the food digests.

Most morning I eat porridge for breakfast using jumbo oats, I make it using milk & water and add seeds, blueberries and natural Greek yogurt to the mix, the fat in the seeds and yogurt help slow down the absorption of the meal, it's a nutritious breakfast and one that keeps me full to lunch. You could try it yourself and test.

I have a mix of granola and bran cereal. Sometimes muesli or Weetabix too. I always weigh my cereal and bolus a good time in advance. That works well.

Experiment a little with bolus amount and timing and you should find you spike much less.

Thanks guys. It's just so frustrating. I'm trying to get my blood sugar levels below 10 regularly as my vision is screwed at the moment. Diabetic nurse reckons if I can do that for a week or so it will improve. I do well for a few readings then eat something I think will be ok and it shoots up again. This blurred vision is really starting to get me down. ☹️
