The young 17 year old girl in the Alton Towers crash has had her leg amputated - so sad for her and her family.

It's not a nice thing to happen to anyone , I hope with a young age on her side that she will adjust to it quickly but I feel for her she must be so upset

My teenager has been talking about the accident at Alton Towers and my heart goes out to the young girl, her family and friends, it is so sad.

I was thinking of this whilst I was driving home from hospital today. I echo all of your sentiments.

My thoughts were that these things happen so very rarely that most people don't stop to think about the risks at all. A fun day out ends in tragedy and a young life is changed forever. Millions have had fun with no harm come to them on similar rides worldwide. Is it worth it though? Should we allow the more dangerous rides to continue and sacrifice a young person's limb every few years? Or is the nanny state idea right? Should we tone down the 'thrill rides' for the millions to save one or two people from this horror? I know people get maimed in cars every day, but transport is a necessary evil in this day and age. Is fun worth this much pain and suffering, even if it only ever affects a handful of people?

edit: It seems particularly sad because we all have diabetes and are having a chance at saving our own limbs through good BG control. This young girl lost her leg in an instant. It doesn't bear thinking about.

Really feel for her and her family, because it will affect her family as well. Alton towers say they will support those injured during their recovery & rehabilitation & won't make them fight for compensation. Let's hope they stick to that. Hopefully with youth on her side she will recover quickly but it will take some time for her to adapt. Tragedy

So, so sad for such a young girl to have to go through such devastating injuries, I too feel for her family and friends. These rides are continually becoming more and more dangerous and surely it's time for a limit to be put on them. I'm not a supporter of the Nanny state and think people, especially youngsters deserve the right of enjoyment, but there has to be a limit on how far their enjoyment is allowed to go in order for them to stay safe

So totally devastating for all the youngsters especially this young lady.
I do sense though that it won't actually be Alton Towers that actually pay compensation but the Insurance Company they have!! I hope Alton Towers really review their safety and procedures.... And all adventure parks around the world.
