Hi.
Sorry , I understand if no one gets chance to read or answer this question .
Just gone into a bit of a panic mode , as i suffer with really bad anxiety ...like really bad . My dad ( 79) suffers with type 2 diabetes and has had his usual review . His blood test sugars have come down , so that was encouraging the diabetic nurse has said . ( This was aided by the introduction of new extra tablets ) She sent a sample of dads urine off and now the actual doctor has asked us to make a telephone appointment , ( which we have done for monday) . Receptionist wont tell us anything .
Should i be worried or is this just standard what they do now .
Anyone any idea what they might have found and how serious. Sorry i realise i am asking you to mind read . I just wondered if anyone had any ideas ?
Anxiety is through the roof and monday feels like forever away . I love my dad . Should add, he has been diabetic for about 5 yrs now i think

It is not possible to guess why the doctor wants a telephone appointment, it may be diabetes related or something else. If it was something serious it seems unlikely the doctor would wait for an appointment and would contact you.

Can't tell you not to fret but it is a telephone call rather than get down here/to A & E as soon as possible.
It is a urine sample which in type 2 diabetes, would usually be checked for protein indicating slightly leaky kidneys which they may need to keep an eye on. I've had that for years and other than taking meds and keeping things monitored hasn't given me any problems.
I hope the consultation puts your mind at rest in any case.

Thanks for your time and trouble in answering . I appreciate it. I know its true what you say . The receptionist did say it was relating to his urine test results though . She did tell me that much . So i guess i am asking what the possibilities are re urine tests and diabetics along with how serious it is / can be .
Just so hard to wait with bad anxiety .
Thank you for your answer though . It’s appreciated.

My experience of Phone calls have been on the informative nature. When i had bad results i was told to make an appointment, when he wanted to give me detail on test results i got a request for a phone call.

Nothing too it i think

The stuff that shows up in urine tests, when it comes to diabetics, which are really, really, really bad news...? They wouldn't leave it to Monday, they'd get him to A&E. So breathe, he's not about to keel over, thank heavens... Something might be up or down and it'll need discussing, but nothing bad's going to happen right this minute.

I had the same a year or so ago. My doctor said I was leaking protein into my urine. She referred me to a lovely kidney specialist. He sent me for ultrasound test and blood tests and I returned to see him and said he was not concerned. I would always leak protein. He asked for me to have 6 monthly blood tests for kidney function and shook my hand and discharged me. My last urine test showed I was not leaking so much protein so now I am not too concerned,
Good luck and don’t worry

Sorry to hear about your b****y anxiety @Hjm. Hope you're better soon

What they look in urine test is proteins, there should be any in morning (fasting) urination. Because if there are it either means he is eating way too much proteins or it would be indication of kidney damage. It is not all bad if they detect the damage early enough to treat it. But is one of the most serious complication of diabetes. So that is what we all must be on lookout for.

Do not apologize for your anxiety, I think most of us if not all know how you feel. The mental strain of diabetes is much bigger than any outsider can understand. Well, at least it is for me. Mostly because of the uncertainty, waiting for tests that might revel something, usually just bad things.
