Is it possible to buy these in the UK? Plenty of places selling the seed, the gourd seems hard to come by/

Sainsbury's sometimes have them, but they're out of stock at the moment.

I’ve not seen them in the shops, I did grown some and they were delicious. I’m going to look in Lidil when I next go there. They always have different vegetables. Saying that Tesco sale unusual, vegetables.

The greatest variety if squash is available in autumn. I guess that is why pumpkins are carved for Halloween.
Butternut squash is available now because it is the most popular but I would not expect to find much else in the shops in January/February

I've just been looking it up...
It looks interesting, 7g of carbs per 100g?
I've currently got some butternut squash growing but this looks better. I'll buy some seed for next year (too late now as we're in the middle of summer).

My google fu is totally failing to find any of the actual gourds for sale in the UK, unfortunately :bigtears:

I looked for the spaghetti squash years ago after I was first diagnosed, but never ever found any though I did specifically check in the autumns. I'd more or less forgotten about it until this thread...

I tried the courgetti version but never cared for shredded courgettes...

Just adding a picture to this thread because I bought some seeds and now have two plants that are thriving. And here is the first (picked) spaghetti squash. (Google said they were ready to pick as soon as they are a bit bigger than your hand so maybe I've left it a bit late??? Cooking suggestions welcome.

Looks really interesting. Never had it before.

I always roast squash. And tend to eat the skin as well. But looking up spaghetti squash, although the skin is edible it may not be pleasant.

Being told “Oh go on, one won’t hurt you!”.
Conversely, the food police.
Small spaghetti squash are lovely steamed, slathered in butter and eaten skin and all.
Large ones like this can be roasted whole (make a small hole for steam to escape and avoid the thing exploding in your oven ). The contents can literally be used like spaghetti.
I am very envious! The slugs got my one and only attempt to grow them up here in Scotland.

cut the spaghetti squash into strips, roll them in flour and egg, add salt and fry. Then make the filling: grated cheese, herbs (I take dill, but you can do something else), garlic and mayonnaise. put the filling and a piece of tomato on the edge of the strip and roll it all into a roll. Very tasty :hungry:

I'm not sure if you follow a low-carb diet, because the recipe contains flour and quite a lot of oil for frying.
Now I want spaghetti squash, but the first harvest is still half a year away :arghh:

Looks delicious and I'm moderately low carb but not keto, so might get away with a small portion.

Sorry about the time of year thing, feel free to talk about your summer foods when I'm in the middle of New Zealand winter :)
