Are you suggesting your shape has changed, without you gaining weight? If that is the case have you lost weight elsewhere?

I'm just trying to work out what you're actually saying in your OP.

I have changed from a hormone injection to insulin and it has caused me to develop a spare tire my Dr says it's the insulin but it is so uncomfortable

But your weight hasnt changed? I'm confused too - I know insulin can sometimes cause weight gain but not sure how a spare tyre can occur without weight gain:wideyed:

Have you changed your diet since insulin?
Insulin is a growth hormone and will put all the food you eat into your cells, your muscles and your fat cells. The same thing happened to me when I started insulin, but I did gain weight but needed to. Then I had to change my diet to stop it.

Fat distribution can easily change, depending on why its being caused.
(The difference between the Newcastle Diet, which seems to hit internal organ fat, and the long slow LCHF that doesn't is proof of that.)
So insulin can 'target' specific areas.
Diet, ie, low carb, may help.

  • I agree I am not doing new castle per set but have cut lots of fat, which is lots of calories and lost 7# s in 2 weeks and most was my spare tire. I have stalled since but only want to lose 3 more. I am ok where I am but can't seem to budge the last 3. Any tips ?

Stalls are natural.
It's the body adjusting, and it's also as your body has lost it's 'easy' resources, which are stored in a lot of water. Keep at it, keep the calories down, and you'll move off the plateau.
Brilliant work so far :)

Thanks. Makes sense an I know this. It's just frustrating to lose that much that fast and then stall for 3 weeks. I will keep at it because the best part of it was by reducing fat I reduced insulin by over 50%. Just goes to show how much fat can impact bs.

Keep at it, you are doing brilliantly.
You need to let your body adjust, and when you have settled into your routine, it'll take off again.

Thanks again. You are my new cheer leader! I forgot to mention the other best part was that it was the ugly nasty visceral fat that came off so between that and the reduced insulin I am in a great place even with the extra 3 pounds. I suppose if I want ed to get real serious I could give up my cocktail with dinner but not ready to get that carried away yet. I just enjoy it and it helps reduce stress and slow the brain down a little so I can sleep. It's all about balance ....

Balance is the key.

It's important to remember you need to enjoy your life, and not just waste it chasing numbers.
If you find your way, everything else will fall into place.
(And, to be honest, I can gain, and lose 3 pounds in a day! )

It certainly does. Were you put on insulin because bs was too high? Are you eating low carb? For me with insulin carbs go right to my gut and butt. I fare very well on vlc, moderate protein and moderate reasonable amounts of healthy fats.
The thing with insulin is it helps you absorb all your food which is good however any excess food will be stored as fat. For me, when I was 1st DXd T 1 I was 96 pounds and needed to gain weight. I am 5'8. Within the 1st 2 months I gained 20 pounds. I was told to eat 15-20 carbs with meals. I neede that weight but I couldn't get bs stable with all those carbs so I slowly cut carbs and of course insulin. I started with about 8-12 units per meal and 5 lantus. I now am on 1/2 unit with meals and 1 lantus. The best part is I no longer fear hypos and death on those small doses, bs is supper steady between 75-90 95% of the time and weight gain stopped. I pretty much eat a vlc paleo diet and do quite well. I could never control bs with carbs, even large portions of veggies. Without grains, dairy, too high fat, saturated fats, sugars and fruits I am very insulin sensative. My goal is to keep insulin low, not just bs. Low insulin is the key to longevity. This is MY story and YMMV but just a few things to think about.

You are nailing it. Since reducing insulin I have been able to enjoy life much more. I am very sensative not only to insulin but fluctuating bs even when in good ranges so the 1/2 unit is barely noticeable. Even just 1 and I could feel it. Eating small meals with small doses is perfect for my bs as well as my stupid stomach. Haha. Luckily for me I like my simple healthy meals. Cooking was my hobby but now a thing of the past. My taste buds love simple these days. I was worried about losing too much weight and having to go back to the old way of eating but obviously that isn't an issue. The hardest part for me wasn't necessarily chasing numbers because I am kind of OCD about them and they stayed in good ranges but rather the way insulin made me feel. I am very sensative to all drugs and meds so the less the better. I have no problem eating the same meals every day just mixing up proteins fats and veg but using the same macros. That in itself makes life more enjoyable and simple. I think, at least for now, I have found my balance but as we know this too will change when the wind blows

I've just seen another post you made with regard to salads, I would say there is a lot of fats added in the sauces, and sauted foods, lamb is usually a fatty meat as well. So extra calories. But you do advocate cutting carbs, so possibly tweaking your diet could re-start the loss.

I just used a tiny amount of Evoo to sauté the mushrooms and lamb. I cut all visible fat off the lamb and only ate 2 oz. I did drizzle the salad with more Evoo and some herbs. I eat 1/2 N avocado a day. I do need some fats. I don't think protein and lettuce are enough. At the moment I am under 800 cals a day.
Perhaps you can help here.... My BF of one piece organic deli turkey, a piece of Boston lettuce, 1 T mayo and mustard are good with 1/2 unit novolog
Now here's the problem. Lunch and dinner are 2 oz protein, 1 ounce guac, 1 T mayo or oil, wrap for lunch, salad for dinner. I also have celery radish and a little onion. I take 1/2 until with both meals and am dropping. So I am eating again to feed bs and this is where the trouble lies. 1/2 unit should not be too much for that amount of food. I have tried taking none and then just end up correcting. As stupid as this sounds I may add few pieces of broccoli. Hoping you have a different idea. I wonder if indrop the guac fat. I don't go low and then pop up again though. I'm afraid to cut anything but can't figure this out....help?

Tweak how so?
According to my calculations this is an average day
5 oz protein. Usually turkey or fish. Occasionally red meat. BF is 1 oz, L and D 2 oz = 140 cal
1 T fat on wrap or salad / protein = 300 cal
2.5 oz avocado = 136 cal
15 max carbs = 60 cal
1 oz pumpkin seeds throughout the day = 200 cal
Total = 836

The problem lies in taking 1/2 unit novolog and still dropping at meals.
You will be my hero if you can figure this macro thing out. Maybe a little broccoli and less fat? Skip the avocado?

That is a radical cut in food.
Daft as it sounds, I think maybe you should increase your portion sizes.
I wouldn't cut anything out, but try adding the broccoli.
Sometimes eating more, but staying below your maintenance level for calories can restart stalled weight loss.
I can't comment with regard to insulin, as I am not on it,
But again, if you are dropping, the broccoli may help with that as well.
