Hi we are currently having problems with our hospital which they have withdrawn funding for insulin pumps due to the fact that we only have 1 specialist diabetic nurse for children and the trust are unwilling to employ another one. Does anybody know if there is a legal requirement for how many diabetic children one specialist diabetic nurse can cater for?
Thanks Tracy
Hi tracy,
sorry to hear that's happened to you.
If you live in england then by law if it's decided your daughter will benefit from an insulin pump then PCT's have to fund it. They shouldn't be able to withdraw once a pump is promised.

Have a read of the site above as it has relevant information and there is even letters you can print off to send to your consultant and PCT if you have problems.
Unfortunately i'm not sure if there is a limit to how many patients a specialist can have under their care so hopefully someone may be able to answer your question.
Hope the site is helpful to you and your able to get somewhere with getting an insulin pump.
Good luck.
