Hi so I was diagnosed as type 2 last June time and immediately started on metformin as I was already eating healthy and working out several times a week weighing 75kg.
I was so disappointed becoming diabetic as I'd tried so hard to avoid it. Since Christmas I've been struggling with feeling exhausted and fitness felt like it was declining. After a few tests it was discovered the metformin wasn't working. So dose was maxed and siptagliptin was added . My Ac1 in August was 52 last month it was 85.

I have felt so ill with my heart racing with minimal exertion the last fortnight, gp told me I had a virus! Later that night I collapsed and was taken into hospital, something to do with ketones. Now I'm being told I'm not type 2 and probably have late onset type 1. I'm home with 2 different insulins and having to carb count everything. This is so much to take in!

Hey!

I've had exactly the same thing happen since Xmas too so just wanted u to know ur not alone :(

when did u get home from hospital?

im struggling with the carb counting too, ended up having a hypo tonight after dinner after injecting too much even though i did what my nurse told me to.

hope ur ok x

Well, the good news is that there is nothing you could have done to avoid it, and once you've got the hang of matching insulin to carbs and exercise (I know it's a big ask but you'll get there) you should feel much better, as the insulin will replace the insulin you aren't making and your body should go back to pre-diabetic feeling (albeit with the pain of injections and blood tests). You're not insulin resistant, so you don't need to go ultra low carb (unless you want to).

Yes, insulin and carb counting is a lot to take in, but you don't have to get it right all at once, and in many ways you have more freedom as a carb counting insulin adjusting T1 than as a T2 who has no way other than diet to get high blood sugars down.

Honestly, the hypos are the worst thing about being on insulin for me. However, they do normally get easier to manage as you get used to them, and there are things you can do if they become a major issue. Just make sure to ALWAYS have access to sugary products at home or when you're out and about.

Hi @Sunshinelover85 ,

"2 different insulins." What have you been prescribed?
