Hi @SQ71
Here's a link to a thread on statins etc
https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/cholesterol-and-statins.156985/
How long had you fasted before the blood was taken for the test? I see it says non fasting but that doesn't always hold true.
The statement about cholesterol being under 4 for diabetes was so far as I am aware dropped a while ago.. surprised to see it written down still.
Your trigs look a bit high and your HDL a bit low but that will depend a bit on what you had eaten/drunk before the blood was taken.
Are you following any specific eating pattern?
Thanks. Will take a look at that thread.
The test was non-fasting. I'd had breakfast before the test. I'm in NZ so medical stuff tends to be a bit behind the rest of the world.
I have been eating low carb/high fat (since the lipid test was done) as my hba1c was 51 at that time and I was diagnosed pre-diabetic. My hba1c is now 40, 3 months later, but fasting BS is not budging. Fasting BS is consistently higher than 7.4 and as high as 9.2
My fasting took over 6 months of intermittent fasting and ultra low carb to "normalise" and I still get the odd blip over 5.5 mmol/l so carry on monitoring but don't stress over it.
If you had eaten breakfast then the trigs number will be skewed anyway so the test was to be honest a bit pointless.
I'll never take statins anyway but like to freak out the docs when they see my numbers (in signature).
Ok. Thats interesting that it took 6 months. I guess my concern is that it is the statin medication that is keeping it high.
I will ask for the repeat cholesterol test to be fasting as I also want a fasting glucose and a GTT done. From what I've read in journals online, hba1c misses up to 73% of diabetes cases.
I started intermittent fasting yesterday to see if that helps. I've also switched taking the statin at night to taking it with my first meal of the day. I had noticed that my BG was rising within a couple of hours of going to bed and thought maybe it was the statin.
Example last night. BS was 6.6 before bed. I woke (to go bathroom) about 2 hours later, and did a test. It had jumped to 8.9. I hadn't eaten in over 6 hours. This is a common occurrence and it doesn't make sense. This mornings fasting is the lowest I've been 7.2.
