Hi everyone i am new to the forum
And would like to ask a question

does anyone know of any funding
For steel toe cap boots?
I work in construction self employed
And recently lost a toe due to ulcers
Beginning because of the boots i have been wearing

I asked at the hospjital and they said
Not to therr knowledge i would have to buy them myself
Only thing is; they cost over £1000 and involves 3 trips to newcastle

I am not sure how things work in Glasgow Jim but l spoke to my accountant and even things like sticks l can get as a legit business expense as they are a health and safety item for work if that is a help for you?

Jim,

I'm a health and safety (and envrionment) consultant, and I'm curious here as to why they cost £1000. I get my boots from a local agricultural supplier and normally pay no more than £75.

MID is correct though, that they can either be written off as a cost of business or, if you have a long term employer, they may fund them for you. Under UK H&S Law you cannot be charged for PPE, and if you need any specialist PPE, that is included.

Your case as self employed is different, but I would guess they are a legitimate expense and offset against any profits (keeps your tax down as well)

Cheers

Dave

Having asked the question at a hospital the £1000 could perhaps be the cost of the hospital providing the boots as a bespoke made to measure.

Late onset T1, several auto immune issues.
Humalogmix25 twice a day, Methotrexate 25mg once per week, FolicAcid 5mg once per week, prednisolone 5mg daily, Allopurinol 300mg, Calcichew-D3 800iu, Levothyroxine 50mcg, Atenolol 50mg, Losarten 100mg, Aspirin 75mg, Nicorandil 20mg, Nitrolingual GTN spray, Metformin 2000mg, Allimemazine 10mg, Lanzoprazole 30mg, Atorvastatin 20mg, Co Codamol 8/500mg, Depo Medrone (Methylprednisolone) or double Prednisolone for 7 days in case of RA flare.

£1000 does seem very excessive for a pair of boots. Many companies do 1/2 sizes and various width fittings which is more or less a custom fit ?

I would also go with Kevlar toecaps if you can.

Much lighter adn don't set off airport security scanners.

Thanks everyone for your comments
The reason they seemingly are so expensive is because they are bespoke. And although there are 2 manufacturers in Glasgow of shoes for diabetics. Only Newcastle have a company that do steel toecap boots

The boots I buy cost about ,£65 from a workwear supplier

Although the podiatrist said I should not be wearing them as the steel is to close to my feet and can and has caused rubbing which results in the other toes suffering

I think they are under the impression
Everyone has £1000 plus
Lying around. Although I know it is a catch 2 situation
