stem cell

its a step in the right direction, however not a cure...........

using stem cells to create new insulin producing beta cells could work, but the patients immune system will again see the beta cells as a threat and destroy them....

a true cure would need to deal with this, which I can only imagine is a genetic solution, which is obviously rather difficult with our current technologies....

The immune system and it's problems is what T1s have as a life. To get the stem cell replacement to work would probably be akin to a bone marrow transplant where the immune system is killed off first, then introduce the stem cells. Just a thought and the cost would be enormous and not on the NHS ?
