Hi all,

Im 39 and have type 1 for 15 years.
My hba1c is 42 and time in range 4-10 around 90%.

I have so much worry for complications even tough my numbers are good.
The last year I have tingling in my feet and hot feet. I sometimes have it in my hands aswell. Everytime i feel something I think about complications:(

I’m a big worrier and I wonder if I really have complications or if it can also be stress.

I’m a like 10-15 kg overweight that I’m trying to address. I can kick myself for not doing that sooner. My focus has always been on managing my sugar and not my total health.

Any advise?

Why don't you go to the doctor and check if these are really complications? If it's really a complication, it's easier to cure it at an early stage, if it's not a complication, then you'll just calm down and be happy. Although I sometimes also feel tingling in my limbs and in my case it is really polyneuropathy, not everything that happens to you is due to diabetes. And not everything that happens because of diabetes is something terrible.

That's been mine too and I can tell you that your sugar levels are much better than mine (54 years of T1 and my control in my pre glucometer teens was just awful). I have had periods of wondering whether certain things were diabetic complications too but so far so good, I have minor issues that may have been exacerbated by diabetes but nothing that stops me from living my life the way I want to.

I second the suggestion that you see your GP. Lots of things aren't diabetes related and with levels like yours I'd be surprised if you were getting diabetic complications. (eg an hba1c of 48 was chosen as the defining level for general diabetes because people rarely get issues with retinopathy if their hba1c runs at less than that.)

Welcome to the forums @jason7 . Though you've posted in a quiet time of day the international nature of the forums means that there's usually someone around to read and respond to your posts.

Hi Jason
Superb results well done you.

I'm a worrier too and i've had it 50 years but one thing i find helps enormously.......

My neighbour is type 1 and we talk about it whenever we are together.
Its such a help talking to someone who understands.

Perhaps it doesn't sound like much but we both benefit from each other and his friendship is worth its weight in gold.

I wish you well

Tony

Thanks for your message Tony!
I agree that contact with someone with type 1 is something special. The recognition is something else!

What I find really difficult is that diabetes can effect everything, so when you experience some discomfort diabetes is always listed as one of the primary causes.
And then the little voice in my head tells me this is the first complication and it will all go downhill from here…

Primary causes my back side....

In my 30s i had a cyst that had to be removed and currently struggling with a frozen shoulder and both were blamed on diabetes.
My dad who is not diabetic had the same cyst and frozen shoulder!!
Its his fault lol

The NHS use it as a stick to beat you with and they don't realise the effect it has on the individual.

I hope i'm helping

All the best

Tony
