I think my new lifestyle and meds are kicking in! This morning my BG was the lowest I have seen yet, at 8.3. I know that is still too high, but its a lot better than the 23 I started at!!

I seem to have more energy, feel more "with it" and have lost weight. I even walked the dog before breakfast this morning!

In addition to walking, I have now ordered myself an exercise bike to use at home. I am determined to lose at least another 4 stone.

Regards,

Carol

Excellent well done!

Good for you, Carol. I have noticed a big difference since my diagnosis in November too. But going low/er carb I have lost 3 stones and feel much better for it. I just never realised how my old way of eating and lifstyle was making me feel so awful! I haven't walked my dogs before breakfast yet, so you have one up on me there;).

Well done carol! Feels good to be on the right track I bet! Wish I had space for an exercise bike

Well done Carol. Yes, it works, just like they said it would.

I hope you have got a radio to go with the exercise bike. Having something to listen to makes it a much more pleasant experience. I started with a rower and then got on an exercise bike and then a real bike. You not only feel better but you are better, healthwise. Keep it up. There are many rewards waiting for you.

Thank you everyone. I am hoping the bike will fit into my home office and then I can play a DVD on the computer while I exercise. :)

A quick question if I may? After a lower than normal reading first thing, I tested before I drove to the bank and it had gone up to 14.4. Could stress have caused that? I hadn't had anything to eat. The metformin tends to make urgent visits to the ladies room necessary and I was worried about needing to go out and risk needing to revisit. I wondered if that may be what caused the rise?

Regards,

Carol

Your BG does go up and down for all sorts of reasons. Your body likes routines and adjusts slowly to new regimes but a couple of the big factors with odd meter readings are meter inaccuracy, plus or minus 10% and the quality of a finger prick sample. Venous blood is much better than the capillary blood from a finger prick which is essentially a 'quick and dirty spot check'. With these sorts of test, one looks at trends over time, not pin point accuracy. Having said that, it does fluctuate and even 18 months on, I still get the odd higher than expected reading.
