Sudden change in blood glucose

Hello all!

I just wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced this at all?

I’m sure you can see from my previous posts I am diabetic - unknown type - but treated as T1 due to my age, weight and c peptide results. I am on Levemir (evening and morning) and humalog for my meals. Both of these have been working well for the past few months.

However for about the last 5 days I am finding it almost impossible to get into single figures. My libre for the last few days has shown I am in target about 4-9% of the time... which isn’t good at all!

I would say my average glucose has been approximately 15 and it has gone as high as 23.

Nothing has changed, I am not ill, nor stressed.

I have also recently moved area so I need to register with a new GP and will have a new specialist - but I assume it will be some time before I see anyone.

Any ideas why this has suddenly happened? It’s making me incredibly tired!

Thanks

Hi there, could it be a honeymoon period that is abruptly coming to an end, I see you were diagnosed last year? I was diagnosed 2 years ago and am still on very low doses of insulin but each time I see the Consultant he says keep a very close eye on your levels, because when the 'honeymoon period' is ending they will suddenly go up possibly in a matter of days. Do you think that could be the case for yourself? x

I agree with @KK123 about the possible honeymoon period changing. I was even not on insulin the first 5 years of diagnosis? And yes I needed to be on it sooner but I was misdiagnosed. But some people still make some insulin for quite some time. So it sounds like your needs are changing. Or any infections (possibles unknown like tooth) will also require increases.

Have you checked your insulin and pens are working ok?
If my BG seems to be off whack, I will try a new insulin cartridge (I use reusable pens. F you use profiled pens change pen).

Have you been told how to correct high BG?
When our BG gets high, it is common to experience insulin resistance and need more insulin than usual to bring our BG down.
Fir example, I need twice as much insulin to correct a BG above 15 compared to a BG under 10.

Hi, yes I thought my insulin could be off. I switched pens of both my Levemir and Humalog and it’s made no difference.

I have been trying to correct but it seems that nothing is bringing it down for NO reason...

I’m going to register at the doctors tomorrow and try to get to see someone ASAP!

It could well be.... although my last doctor said they wouldn’t test my c peptide again for a year and the last one was low. So I’m not sure how I would know?

I’m currently at 6 and feel so horrendously sick after being high for the past few days!

So this is an example of my daily levels at the moment... I’ve had approximately 10 units of humalog insulin to correct this (over the past few hours) and it seems as soon as it starts to go down.... it then goes back up :banghead:. I’m wondering if there is a problem with my box of humalog.... all of the pens in the box have a sticker which say ‘repacked by....’ none of my other boxes have ever had this on them.... has anyone else had this problem?
