Hi

I'd just like to recommend Aldi's (no I'm not on commission and I don't own the store  ) "Dominion" sugar free sweets. They are ideal for sooking occassionally between meals and come in four great flavours- strawberries and cream, mint, fruit and creamy butterscotch.

I have tried and like them all. There are 2 small pocket size boxes in each packet. Perfect :D

Hiya all!

I'll repeat my warning from a different thread - sugar alcohols (Maltitol, Xylitol etc) will probably blip your BG. Enjoy the sweets, but limit yourself to a few occasionally :)

I've tried the sugar free wearthers and they OK but I can anly eat a couple without noticable effects from the sweetners.

It was nice to have somethign I could suck when I had a sore throat but not something I would eat regularly.

FWIW I've found them cheepest at ASDA, they were on offer at 2 packs for £1 (or £1.15 each  )

I got a large bag of the Wearthers sugar frees when I was in the US in October. It was far bigger than the bags over here and has coffee and mint flavours in it too!!
They are lovely, quite small so don't have too big an impact as long as you can resist reaching for another all the time!! I tend to just suck one or two occasionally whilst driving to keep the throat moist over longer journeys so the bag is still lasting well.
Spooky too as when they were first mentioned on this thread last night by alliebee I was sucking one!!
Regards
Angie

We get them here in Switzerland but I think they're German. Take some holidays there.....

Hey guys!

I give in! You can get your Werthers on-line at low-carb megastore and avidlite. Enjoy!

I got three big packets at a Tescos Extra yesterday (based on a tip off from this forum - I usally don't like walking down the sweeties aisle anymore).

Haven't tried them yet. The carb count seems kinda high 15g for 5 pieces, but it says on the pack that most of the polyols, so I'll have to test and see if they spike my blood. I'm not really a "I'll just eat 5" kinda guy. I usually avoid rather than risk eating a whole pack.

Borofergie,
That's only 3 per sweet if you just have the one!!
I have hidden mine in the cupboard, that's why I still have loads left from October!! I just have one or two when I drive longish journeys as a treat.
Just try an behave!!

OH Bliss

Just got a pack from Big Tesco, and they are really nice .... Oh dear

I saw a post on another thread that said sugar free sweets are almost 100% carb, but would someone be able to explain to me what that means i mean if they are sugar free, what causes the carb count
the ingredients list is too tiny to read even with glasses on

Polyols or "sugar-alcohols". These are carbohydrates but (the theory goes) that they are not completely absorbed by your intestine, so not all of it gets in to your blood, and therefore the "spike" should be lower than regular carbohydrate.

Some of the Atkins branded diet food subtracts polyols from the carbohydrate content of the food (along with fibre which is another hard to digest carbohydrate) to get "net-carbs".

If you eat too many they can also cause "excessive consumption can cause diarrhoea, flatulence, and a laxative effect " (according to http://www.diabetes.org.uk/About_us/Our ... eeteners2/) which something I remember from trying to get gullible kids to eat a whole packet of sugar free mints, when I was at school.

I'm very suspicious of the whole thing. Which is why my "Sugar Free Werthers" are still unopened (and why I stopped buying the Atkins stuff).
