Suitable pub non-alcoholic drink for a pint glass?

For some months I have contented myself with drinking two pints of draft diet coke over a 3 hours period at my local club dance. Now I believe this drink is not suitable for T2 diabetics' nor is it helpful when trying to lose weight around the stomach. Will someone please give me an idea as to what type of (non-alcoholic) drink I should consume, preferably to fill a pint glass. I would drink water but feel embarrassed using a club's facilities without contribution towards its financial well being.

This might sound like a daft idea but if you would drink water have you thought of sparkling water?
That way you're drinking something that's a bit better for you than diet soft drinks and you're giving the financial contribution that you'd like to.

Sparkling water is a great idea and mixers and soft drinks make the most profit for clubs too!

Why do you think diet coke is not good for a diabetic? When I go out to a pub and I'm driving, I drink diet coke. It has no sugar in it, so doesn't impact on BS levels.

Hi. I'm not aware of any issue with diet coke. Also note that alcohol is also OK in sensible quantities assuming you aren't driving.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions; and questions as to why I wish to cut out diet coke.

The link given below is indicative of a number of threads/articles/etc I have read concerning diet coke:

http://www.runnersworld.com/community/forums/nutrition-weight-loss/weight-loss/cut-diet-soda-lose-weight

In addition to being diabetic I wish to lose weight (in particular around the stomach) and my interpretation of information as given in runnersworld, is that I should stop drinking diet coke and find an alternative.

Sparkling waters seem to be the solution to my problem - for those who have suggested it - thank you.

I do drive so alcohol is out.

I drink Robinson's 'no sugar added' as It has no impact on BG. The Strawberry cream goes very nicely with sparkling water. I am sure that if you talk to the proprietor of the pub, they would keep your bottle of Robinson's behind the bar and charge you for the setup. The apple is also pretty good. Just to give it a try, buy some and a bottle or smaller individual bottles of sparkling water and serve over ice. If you like, it is an option that also give the pub some jingle for their service.

The article mainly focusses on the craving for sweet things causing the weight gain, not the diet coke itself? So long as you don't stuff donuts I can't see how calorie free and sugar free diet coke can affect weight?

Neither do I Ali but I gave up my Pepsi Max addiction and lost half a stone. I think it's something to do with first insulin response. The tongue tastes something sweet, releases insulin but it's got nothing to work on. Insulin is the hormone that makes you fat, so....?

Yeah. Me neither, but (inspired by Libby) I cut the Diet Coke and lost 10lbs in a month (on the Whole30). I've been avoiding sweetners ever since.

How very odd. I rarely drink diet sodas and pre D rarely drank any fizzy drinks so no personal experience of it.

Pint of soda water with ice for me. If I am at home I have it with 'no added sugar' Lime juice or a fresh lime squeezed in oy, must be well chilled or with ice :problem:

Sparkling water with ice and a slice looks good, but my favourite is lime and soda water. There's some sugar in the lime, but not much lime.

Hi

I have resolved my drinking situation. Had a word with the barmaid, told her I was drinking pints of water with ice in, in future and that I would be donating 50p for the drink. She could keep it or put it in a charity box. I now feel comfortable with my well earned reputation of being last of the big spenders. Thanks to everyone for advice.
