Type 2 Superfoods

Hi all - am Type 2 and thinking of purchasing some superfoods for smoothies and breakfast - smoothie one contains Hemp, Maca, Lucuma, Cacao, Spirulina, Chlorella, Kelp and Barley Grass - breakfast one contains Hemp, Goji, Chia, Cacao and Mulberries. Anyone got any thoughts especially about blood sugar levels. Tks!

You'll need to find out the nutritional breakdown of these smoothies to see how many carbs are present. Alternatively you could try one after testing then test your BG 2 hours later and see what effect it has (more the Russian Roulette method). Are you making them yourself form the raw ingredients or buying off the shelf?

From raw ingredients yet to be decided. Carbs seem quite ok - there is no added sugar and hopefully any Carbs will be of the good variety.
Tks

The problem with smoothie is its like concentrated of what you are trying to have!
Too much of some concentrated foods play devil with your blood glucose levels.

But @Brunneria does have some green smoothie recipes that are very low carb and good at reducing your blood glucose levels.

hmmm well many here (me included) would say there's no such thing as a "good" carb.. checked out a couple of your ingredients but can't find any nutritional info on them.. would recommend testing before and 2 hours after taking one to see what they do to your BG levels.

Presumably your Hemp is protein - does it contain carbs at all? Or is it hemp seeds, which are more carby? Other ingredients would be more supplement-sized (otherwise the algae one would taste disgusting!), and as such most of them seem OK. I don't know about Lucuma, and mulberries are very sweet. The proof, however, would be in the pudding - or in this case, breakfast - and how your BG reacts. I hope you have a BG monitor and will be testing before the meal, and 1 and 2 hours after.

Mulberries are one of those particular berries recommended for diabetics though - as are barberries, and milberries (the very small blueberries), and blueberries, due to nutritional properties (don't ask me what! ;):)). And pretty low-carb considering.

They should be drunk while cold. And start going off as soon as they reach room temperature.

But i have never found that an issue.

I used to make upd (using frozen fruit and veg, or ice, so they started off very cold), then take them to work in a thermos. Still cold at 3pm.

Alternatively, make a big batch. Put them in clip top plastic mugs, freeze, and let them defrost all morning, ready for lunch break.

Love 'em.

I rarely make them nowadays. :( but the memory is making me salivate! :)
