Hi,I wondered if anyone has the same problem as I'm having at the moment and that is sweating when I'm having a meal? Not when I snack but eating my breakfast or Dinner.Sometimes I look forward to my dinner then when I get it in front of me I start to feel sickly but try eating and thats when I start to sweat and I mean really sweat ,it's running down my face and sometimes I start with Palpitations!so I just stop eating.I'm having much smaller portions on a small plate but quite honestly I could go the whole day without eating and Iknow that would be silly.I've actually just got my first meter today and am going to start testing so I'm hoping it might give me some answers perhaps, certain foods making me like this.Any suggestions welcome and is this what to expect till I get things right!!Thanks,Virginia :)

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
Never heard of that one! are you using a medication which might be the cause?

Hi Virginia.

Glad to see you are going to be testing. You need to see what your Bg level is immediately before the meal so you have the base line, then you need to test at 1 and 2 hrs after the meals. See what effect that food has had on you.

One other thing is if you are worrying about anything this may be causing you stress which could possibly make you feel hot etc. Can I also ask do you know what your BP levels are like, do you check them regularly as high blood pressure can have a similar effect.

Just been looking at your initial posts where you mention 24/7 sweating, not just at meal times......

There are over 800+ possible causes of this disorder which some are linked to Diabetes but the majority to other things. Here is the link:

In the circumstances it might be advisable to get a referral to a Specialist for a proper investigation and diagnosis.

Sweating as a result of eating is classed as Gustatory Sweating and has several causes. If you Google the condition you should find what you are looking for.

The best way to control it if it diabetes related is by tight BG control and aim for a low carb meal if at all possible. I used to suffer the condition excessively until I changed my diet to low GI and got my HbA1c down to around 6% and still falling.

When I eat anything too carby or alcoholic I sweat profusely, but it is better when my bg is under control.

Thanks again for replies.Yes the sweating I've had for 17 years now the Neurologist said it's because only 40% of my body sweats from my head to the top of my thighs and in the middle of the night although I sleep on top of the bed in my shorts most of the time I can be icy cold yet wet through!I think my Meds have a lot to do with it I've been on Beta Blockers for 15 years, hence my answer about my BP and yes its usually high although I only have it tested twice a year but when I go to a clinic etc and have it taken they always say"is your BP usually high"!I'm also on Pindalol,Ramapril,Metformin,Pregabalin,Cymbalta.Asprin,Atorvastatin and Co-codamol,I was on Tramadol but they had no effect so stopped them.I did my first test before dinner,it was 9.5 and 2 hours later it was 10.0.I'm going to do it for the next 7 days.I think because one Neuro guy said it was the Diabetes causing the Sweating and another saying it was the Arachnoiditis, then the Nurse saying it was the Neuropathy!it's no wonder I'm :? Thanks againI'm taking everything on board.

I too have been suffering from hot flushes, always several times during the at night, often in the evening and sometimes during the day. I find this difficult to cope with as, at night, I will have to throw all covers off and then wake again very cold, and when it occurs during the day/evening it also arrives with a feeling of great irritability. I do take other meds I feel certain it is due to my medication, a combination of 850mg metformina and 50g vildagliptin, as I have read metformin can cause night sweats and I did not suffer from these prior to taking the meds, and I believe I had been diabetic a long time before diagnosis. I take this twice daily, after breakfast and after my evening meal. I am 63 and had no experience of hot flushes during my menopause.
I have read through other posts and realise that this has been covered in depth but I am wondering if there is any help out there, anything known to relieve these symptoms as I cannot stop taking the medication? many thanks
