Hello All,

My name is Rahul. i live in India. I have diabetes from 9 years. The sugars have shot up off late due to stress and other factors and I am trying to get it into control .

As of now from last one month I sweat while eating. Sometimes severe when the food is spicy sometimes I dont when the food is not so spicy or bland. . and I have read that this is a complication associated with Diabetes. I have few questions.

Is it severe? Have I suffered a nerve damage.
HOw do i stop this? Is there a medication?
If I get my sugar level under control will this stop?

There might be more questions but I want these answered first.

I find I sweat when there's something affecting my blood sugar, I break out in a sweat and when I check my blood sugar is either on the way up or down and it's usually a sharp shift. I know because I've tested during episodes. It's a strange type of sweating, that I can't explain to people. Across the top of my forehead and my neck and chest will be wet/ clammy but I feel cold to the touch, it's really debilitating so I can certainly sympathasise with you, it's so bad this morning I haven't had anything to eat for fear of making it worse! Woke up this morning blood sugar was 5.7 it's now 6.4 and I've had several temperature spikes, I've wondered if it's the body natural defences trying to regulate itself? Which would indicate good control making the flashes/ sweating less frequent?

Hi @me.rahul and welcome to the forum.

This is an explanation and it is referred to as Gustatory sweating. It can be a sign of autonomic neuropathy, (damage to the nerves that regulate the body's temperature).

Hi, IF there is a damage to the nerve system can it be cured? or is it a permanenet damage that I have to deal with?

I notice that you're in India. Something else to consider is turmeric. I had less than a teaspoon in food twice recently and ended up sweating profusely. The next morning, my bottom sheet was yellow, both times. After freaking out, I had a good old rummage on the internet and found that curcumin, the active ingredient of turmeric, can only be expelled by sweating. So if you are using turmeric or other spice mixes which include it, that might just might be an possible explanation. You could try eliminating turmeric for a few meals and see if it improves ?

I sweat when I eat, especially acid based food ( fruit) this is due to nerve damage in my stomach. I was fine before I got ill and developed Diabetic complications. I eat and get very hot and sweat at the back of my neck and my chest, when I have stopped eating I am then freezing and either have to have a hot drink or hot shower. Unfortunately once the damage is there not much can be done.
