Hi
I was diagnosed with T2 in Oct 17 with a HbA1c of 84 and put on Metformin, of which I should be taking 4 now but only taking one as I want to control this by diet and exercise [now walking 10k a day]
So I'm self testing my BG and 11 weeks ago my weekly average was 10.90, for the past few weeks between 6.6 and 7.4 [slight rise due to Christmas and Norovirus] Through testing I've realised I have the dawn phenomenon, the rise between night and morning has lessened I did have a week of around mid to high 7's for morning fast test, this week it's mid to high 8's [Christmas effect?]
I'm not new to LC having done this for 14 years, I aimed for under 30g a day but may have a bit of carb creep, however it was not low enough so I'm now around 12g a day.
So I've looked at 16/8 [once] and Atkins fat fast [twice bit of a headache], if I don't eat breakfast my BG continues to rise in the morning as in 16/8 diet. Atkins advocates 5 x 200g meals high fat, I had a headache first time with this, so made bone broth the second time, I didn't feel hungry either. This is good in so much it's allowing my liver [oh yes got a fatty liver too] to get rid of it's stored glucose, however the DP rises will impact on my HbA1c test.
Can I expect these rises to continue until I've lost more weight, and carry on with the intermittent fasting which in turn will speed up weight loss and then [hopefully] the dawn phenomenon will go away and I will then have better morning fast BG levels. In the short term not worry too much about the HbA1c test.
Those who now have 'normal' BG levels what are your typical morning/fast BG levels and then before & afte eating?
Thanks
